At the freshly-minted Cavallo Club, in Juffair’s Atiram Premier Hotel, resident DJ- Jono, from South Africa, will be mixing it up from house, dance and commercial to Top 40 tunes, R&B and hip hop. And since August is the opening month there are a whole host of international DJs and local favourites set to guest on the decks including DJ Swing, DJ Windy City, DJ Neil, DJ Peekaboo and DJ Craig flying in from London. A team of beautiful dancers from Scotland is also promised, and we don’t think they’re talking highland fling. DJ Maxine, who is also a singer and songwriter, has been known to take to the mic during her appearances and has several recordings to her name with another huge club brand, Hed Kandi. And if you think the name sounds familiar, A. you’re giving away your age and B. you would be right, her dad’s Paul Hardcastle who ‘revolutionised the sound of 80s’ pop with the song 19. Tickets are BD15 for ladies and BD20 for men. For reservations call 33 360-300. Auditions for one of the island’s favourite singing competitions, The Vocalist, kicks off at Harvesters at the Crowne Plaza on August 15 when a panel of three judges will have the difficult task of picking a group of talented songsters to go through to the knock out stages of the contest. August 2015 37 www.bahrainthismonth.com Crowne Plaza Bahrain’s singing competition, The Vocalist, is set to return to Harvesters Bar & Terrace with new themes, judges, prizes and a whole lot of entertainment. Participants are given the opportunity to perform live on a weekly basis with the club’s exciting in-house band and dancers. This eagerly anticipated annual event has proved to be a great learning experience and a launch pad for many aspiring singers on the island. “The vocalist was a real starting point for me,” said Paige Baker, the winner of last year’s competition. “It gave me so much positive experience, not only with regards to my singing, but my performance as a whole. I was given the opportunity to make my mark as a lead singer of a fully functioning band and I cannot thank the guys at Crowne Plaza enough for the opportunity.” Cheryl Sanchez, last year’s first runner-up believes there’s no other competition like The Vocalist in Bahrain. “There are karaoke competitions all around, but no one gives singers, like me, the opportunity to perform with a group of people who have been playing every night together,” she explains. Harvester’s in-house band, Groove Thing, will ensure that all the participants are kept in line and are given a fair chance to do what they love to do the most, performing and entertaining. This year there will also be a new group of dancers to accompany the singers and provide that extra ‘wow’ factor. Auditions start on August 15 at Harvesters, Crowne Plaza Bahrain, in front of a panel of three judges. Anyone aged 18 and above with a valid CPR card can enter the competition. Application forms are available at the hotel, or can be downloaded from Crowne Plaza Bahrain’s Facebook page. Audition spaces are limited so submit your form as soon as possible, here’s an opportunity you don’t want to miss! Call 17 531-122.
