92 August 2015 www.bahrainthismonth.com Jaguar Land Rover has revealed a range of new road safety technology research projects that are being developed to reduce the number of accidents caused by drivers who are stressed, distracted and not concentrating on the road ahead. The Jaguar Land Rover ‘Sixth Sense’ research project utilises advanced technology from sports, medicine and aerospace, to monitor the driver’s heart rate, respiration and levels of brain activity to identify driver stress, fatigue and lack of concentration. The UK-based team is also looking at innovations that would reduce the amount of time the driver’s eyes are off the road whilst driving, and how to communicate with the driver via pulses and vibrations through the accelerator pedal. A leading social club has joined forces with one of Bahrain’s biggest dealerships. Motorcity, the distributor of Volvo, Subaru and Citroen in the Kingdom, has tied up with the British Club in an official partnership. As part of this association, the British club received two vehicles from Motorcity; a Volvo S60 sedan and Citroen Berlingo. The new Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle will offer an EPA-estimated 67 miles per gallon when it hits the US this month. Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz announced the EPA-estimated performance figures at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Aspen, Colorado. Mirai is the only zero emission electric vehicle on the market that tops the 300 mile range milestone. “Toyota realised in the early 90s that electrification was key to the future of the automobile,” says Lentz. “Just as the Prius introduced hybrid-electric vehicles to millions of customers nearly 20 years ago, the Mirai is now poised to usher in a new era of efficient, hydrogen transportation.” The world’s first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle, the Toyota Mirai is a fourdoor, mid-size sedan with performance that competes with traditional internal combustion engines – but uses no gasoline. Going the Distance The small car with a big personality is set to undergo an impressive revamp. The soon to be available MINI Clubman is set to be the biggest model yet, in terms of overall dimensions, and with it come big expectations. Arriving in the Middle East in 2016, the third generation has grown both inside and out while carving out a new vehicle class for MINI. Even in the new premiumcompact segment it is consciously designed as the “smallest large car”, its makers say. Just over 32cm longer and around 12cm wider than its predecessor, the new model provides plenty of space to meet the demands of youthful, urban mobility. It also offers plenty of storage space.
