bahrainthismonth.com | JULY 2026 SUMMER & STAYCATIONS 21 City Staycation Comfort Kristian Harrison checks in to Hilton Bahrain City Centre Hotel & Residences for a relaxing city staycation, complete with spacious rooms, impressive leisure facilities, refined dining and thoughtful service throughout. ometimes the best escapes are the ones that do not require a boarding pass. In a country as compact and convenient as Bahrain, the idea of a staycation has become increasingly appealing, offering all the pleasure of a hotel break without the stress of airports, packing lists, transfers or travel fatigue. Hilton Bahrain City Centre Hotel & Residences understands that appeal perfectly. Set beside one of the kingdom’s most popular retail and entertainment destinations, the property offers all the benefits of a city break while still feeling comfortably removed from the rush outside. The valet service made arrival effortless, while the regular shuttle pick-up and drop-off service to Bahrain City Centre Mall added another useful layer of convenience for guests who want shopping, cinema, dining or entertainment within easy reach. The lobby sets the tone well. It feels modern, bright and calm, with the kind of relaxed atmosphere that immediately helps you shift out of your normal routine. Check-in was efficient and welcoming with friendly smiles at every turn, and within minutes the staycation had properly begun. Room To Recharge The rooms are one of the hotel’s biggest strengths. Spacious, stylish and thoughtfully designed, they offer the comfort expected from Hilton while adding the practicality of a serviced residence. Each room is fully kitted out with a kitchen, utensils and all the modern amenities needed for a longer stay, a family break or simply a more flexible weekend away. It is the kind of set-up that makes the room feel genuinely liveable rather than simply functional. There is room to relax, work, dine, unpack and switch off properly. The interiors are contemporary without feeling cold, with comfortable bedding, generous storage and a layout that makes good use of space. After a busy week, having a room that feels calm, organised and self-contained makes a real difference. For me, the comfort of the room was one of the highlights of the stay. There is something satisfying about closing the door, leaving the city behind and having everything you need within reach. Whether staying for a single night, a weekend or a longer visit, the residence-style format gives the hotel a strong sense of practicality without taking away from the feeling of being treated. S

bahrainthismonth.com | JULY 2026 SUMMER & STAYCATIONS 22 Leisure In The City A good staycation depends on more than a nice room, and Hilton Bahrain City Centre Hotel & Residences offers a strong range of leisure facilities. The pool options are particularly impressive, with indoor, outdoor and children’s pools giving guests plenty of choice depending on the mood, the weather or the age group. The outdoor pool is ideal for relaxing and enjoying a slower pace, while the indoor pool adds year-round flexibility. Families are also well catered for, with the kids’ pool making the property a sensible choice for parents who want an easy break without complicated planning. Fitness facilities are equally well considered. The mixed fitness centre is open 24 hours, which is a major advantage for guests who prefer early morning or late-night workouts. There is also a female-only fitness centre, a thoughtful addition that gives guests more privacy, comfort and choice. The spa, steam room and sauna complete the leisure offering, creating a rounded staycation experience that allows guests to rest, recover and recharge without leaving the property.

bahrainthismonth.com | JULY 2026 SUMMER & STAYCATIONS 23 A Day Of Dining Breakfast at The Collective is a relaxed and generous start to the day. The buffet offers plenty of choice, from bakery items and fresh fruit to eggs, lighter options and more indulgent plates. The added bonus is the unlimited à la carte selection, which gives breakfast a more personal and elevated feel. Dining continues strongly throughout the day. The hotel’s extensive menu gives guests plenty of options, whether they are after something casual, comforting or more substantial. There is also a quaint café serving homemade treats, fantastic tea and coffee, making it a pleasant spot for a quiet break between meals, shopping or time by the pool. One of the most distinctive experiences is the afternoon tea, inspired by Bahrain’s Tree of Life. It is a clever local touch, giving the experience a sense of place while still keeping the indulgence and elegance expected from afternoon tea. The selection of finger foods is beautifully suited to the occasion, offering a mix of savoury and sweet bites that feel refined without being overly formal. Effortless Escapism What makes Hilton Bahrain City Centre Hotel & Residences work so well as a staycation destination is the way it removes stress. Everything from arrival to checkout feels easy. My stay was a reminder that a proper getaway does not always need distance. Sometimes it is enough to step into a different setting, slow down, enjoy a great breakfast, take time by the pool, spend an afternoon over tea and return to a room that feels calm and comfortable. It is convenient, relaxing and well equipped, offering the kind of city staycation that makes you feel as though you have travelled, even when home is only a short drive away.

bahrainthismonth.com | JULY 2026 SUMMER & STAYCATIONS 25 Shield Your Skin With high UV levels and long summers, sun protection is an essential part of daily life in Bahrain. Here is what to prioritise this season. Daily SPF A broad-spectrum sunscreen should be part of any daily skincare routine in Bahrain. Even short periods in the sun can expose skin to significant UV radiation, whether commuting to work or spending time outdoors. Most dermatologists recommend SPF 30 or higher for everyday use, with SPF 50 often preferred during the summer months. Sunscreen should be applied to all exposed skin, including areas that are frequently overlooked such as the ears, neck and backs of the hands. Reapplication every two hours is important during extended periods in the sun. Lightweight fluids, invisible gels and tinted formulations have made daily SPF easier to wear, even in Bahrain’s heat and humidity. Bahrain’s UV levels are often high during the summer months, meaning significant exposure can occur even during relatively short periods outdoors. Shade Matters A hat provides valuable protection for areas that receive some of the highest levels of sun exposure. The face, scalp and neck are often the first places to show the effects of prolonged time in the sun. Wide-brimmed styles offer the greatest coverage, while bucket hats and lightweight sports caps are practical everyday options. Choosing a hat with a brim of at least seven centimetres can help shield the face and upper shoulders from direct sunlight. Eye Protection Sunglasses are a necessity in Bahrain’s bright conditions. Beyond comfort, they help protect the eyes from prolonged UV exposure, which can affect eye health over time. Look for lenses that offer 100% UVA and UVB protection. Larger frames and wraparound styles provide additional coverage by limiting sunlight from entering around the sides. In Bahrain’s bright conditions, quality sunglasses are useful throughout the year rather than only during the summer months. Cover Up Clothing can provide an effective barrier against the sun while helping maintain comfort in warm weather. Lightweight linen shirts, breathable cotton pieces and loose-fitting cover-ups are well suited to Bahrain’s climate. Many brands now offer garments with built-in UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor), designed specifically for time spent in the sun. These can be useful during extended periods outdoors. Wide-brimmed hats, oversized sunglasses and lightweight cover-ups have become common features of summer wardrobes, allowing practical protection to complement personal style. Smart Habits Good sun protection extends beyond products and accessories. One of the most common misconceptions is that sunscreen is only necessary at the beach or pool. In reality, UV exposure accumulates throughout the day, including during short periods outdoors. Seeking shade during the strongest hours of sunlight, typically between 10am and 4pm, can help reduce overall exposure. Staying hydrated is equally important during Bahrain’s long summer season. Lip care is another step that is often overlooked. A lip balm containing SPF can help protect against dryness and sun damage, especially near the coast where exposure levels are often higher.

bahrainthismonth.com | JULY 2026 SUMMER & STAYCATIONS 31 Amna Syed and Shaymaa Elgayar enjoyed a girls’ staycation at The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa Bahrain, and shared their thoughts. Summer has a way of making us crave an escape. While holidays abroad are always tempting, sometimes the best getaway does not involve a passport, airport queues or trying to squeeze a week’s worth of outfits into hand luggage. Sometimes, all you need is one overnight bag, your favourite travel companion and a hotel that makes switching off feel effortless. With Bahrain’s summer sunshine in full force, we swapped our to-do lists for sea views, spa robes and leisurely lunches at The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa Bahrain. What followed was a weekend filled with good food, proper catch-ups, a little pampering and plenty of moments where we looked at each other and said: “Why don’t we do this more often?” From spacious accommodation overlooking the sea to vibrant dining experiences, indulgent spa treatments and lazy poolside moments, this staycation reminded us that luxury is not always about travelling further. Sometimes, it is about making time to slow down. Checking In: Holiday Mode Activated First impressions matter and ours could not have been better. After a warm welcome at reception, we made our way to our sea-view residence and immediately agreed on one thing: we could happily stay longer than one night. The residence felt more like a stylish apartment than a hotel room, complete with a spacious living room, a beautifully furnished bedroom with a king-size bed, two bathrooms, a practical kitchenette and even a washing machine for longer stays. Of course, before we had unpacked a single thing, we had wandered straight over to the windows. There is something about a sea view that instantly convinces your brain you are on holiday, even when you are only a short drive from home. The living room quickly became our unofficial headquarters for coffee, conversation and the occasional debate over who had packed more ‘just in case’ outfits. Coffee First: Catching Up at Royal Café Every girls’ getaway starts with one essential ingredient: coffee. Royal Café became our first stop, where iced coffees arrived just as Bahrain’s summer temperatures reminded us why indoor seating is a gift. Summer Reset

bahrainthismonth.com | JULY 2026 SUMMER & STAYCATIONS 32 Within minutes, conversation took over. There were stories we had forgotten to tell each other, plans to make, memories to laugh about and, naturally, the obligatory discussion about booking another girls’ trip before we had even finished this one. Without phones constantly buzzing or calendars dictating the day, we remembered how refreshing uninterrupted conversation can be. Sometimes, slowing down really is the greatest luxury. Friday Fun Brunch at BO.SABI and a Caribbean Twist at SOL If one experience captured the spirit of our staycation, it was Friday Brunch at BO.SABI. Bringing together bold Caribbean flavours, lively entertainment and an infectious party atmosphere, it was the perfect way to ease into the weekend. From the moment we arrived, the upbeat music and vibrant energy set the tone. The buffet was a feast for both the eyes and the appetite, with an impressive spread that catered to every craving. Fresh sushi and colourful salads sat alongside stone-baked pizzas, succulent ribs and comforting Southern fried chicken, while Caribbean favourites such as jerk chicken, fried plantains and creamy macaroni cheese added a delicious island twist. Live cooking stations kept the experience interactive, with chefs preparing dishes to order and making every visit to the buffet feel like a new discovery. Of course, we began with every intention of being sensible. That plan quickly disappeared somewhere between our second trip to the buffet and the dessert station. Speaking of dessert, it was impossible to resist. From beautifully presented cakes and pastries to bite-sized sweet treats, every corner offered another temptation. The Baskin-Robbins ice cream cart was the final flourish, proving that no Friday celebration is complete without a scoop or two. Paired with refreshing mocktails and expertly crafted cocktails, the SOL Friday Fun Brunch was more than just a meal. It was a vibrant afternoon of fantastic food, live entertainment and feel-good energy that left us smiling long after the last bite. Poolside Therapy After brunch, a swim sounded ambitious. Instead, we opted for what we are now calling poolside therapy. Feet dipped into the cool water, sunglasses firmly on and absolutely nowhere to be. Sometimes the best conversations happen when you are sitting on the edge of a pool laughing about absolutely nothing in particular. With palm trees swaying gently and the afternoon sun sparkling across the water, it became one of those unexpectedly perfect moments that no itinerary could ever plan. Spa Time: Because We Deserved It No girls’ staycation is complete without at least one sentence beginning with: “I could definitely get used to this.” The spa delivered exactly that feeling. One of us chose the 60-minute Perfect Balance Massage, designed to melt away tension and leave both body and mind feeling lighter. Mission accomplished. The other opted for the Marine Moisture Recharge Facial, a particularly wise decision after Bahrain’s combination of blazing sunshine outside and enthusiastic air conditioning indoors had done its best to confuse our skin. Both treatments left us looking noticeably more refreshed than when we had arrived and, according to us at least, five years younger. The spa also offers an extensive range of massages, facials, body scrubs and wellness rituals, making it wonderfully easy to justify coming back, purely for research purposes, of course.

bahrainthismonth.com | JULY 2026 SUMMER & STAYCATIONS 33 Fitness, Fun and Something for Everyone One thing we loved about the hotel was that it caters to every type of guest. If you like starting the day with a workout, you will appreciate the fully equipped mixed gym, ladies-only fitness area, padel courts, squash, basketball and table tennis. If, on the other hand, your version of cardio is walking enthusiastically towards brunch, you will feel equally welcome. The outdoor swimming pool and children’s area also make the hotel an excellent option for families looking for a summer escape. A Bright Start at Olivos The following morning began the best way possible, with breakfast at Olivos, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant. Bright, welcoming and overlooking the pool, it offered the kind of relaxed atmosphere that encourages you to linger over one more cup of coffee. The breakfast buffet was generous, catering to every kind of morning appetite. Freshly baked pastries, seasonal fruits, cereals and yoghurt were complemented by an extensive selection of hot dishes, while eggs were cooked to order just the way you like them. Local favourites sat comfortably alongside international classics, creating a menu that appealed to every palate. We were particularly impressed by the thoughtful gluten-free options, making it easy for guests with dietary requirements to enjoy breakfast without compromising on choice. Naturally, we approached breakfast with the best intentions. A healthy plate of fruit quickly made room for warm pastries and somehow an extra coffee felt entirely justified. After all, staycations come with one unwritten rule: you do not count calories before checkout. Our Verdict Our stay at The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa Bahrain was a reminder that the best weekends are not always the busiest ones. Sometimes they are the ones where you wake up to sea views, talk for hours over coffee, accidentally eat three desserts, lose track of time by the pool and leave the spa wondering why everyday life does not come with complimentary fluffy robes. The hotel strikes a lovely balance between luxury and comfort, with enough going on to fill a whole weekend while still encouraging you to slow down and enjoy it. Whether it is a girls’ getaway, a romantic break, a family staycation or simply an excuse to switch off, this is a place that makes it easy. We arrived looking for a short break from routine. We left already planning the next one. Book Your Summer Staycation Craving a proper reset without the passport stamps? The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa Bahrain has everything you need for a slow, indulgent city escape, with sea views, standout dining and spa treatments included. Book your staycation today and discover that sometimes the best holiday is the one waiting right on your doorstep. With morning sunlight streaming through the windows and no reason to rush anywhere, breakfast at Olivos became another reminder that it is often the simplest moments that make a getaway feel truly special. An Italian Finale at Mondo Every good staycation needs a proper sendoff and ours came at Mondo, the hotel’s Italian restaurant. After a full day of eating, relaxing and vaguely promising ourselves we would hit the gym tomorrow, it was exactly the slower pace we needed. Beautifully made pasta, handcrafted pizzas, fresh seafood and classic Italian dishes built for sharing set the tone. Conversation flowed easily and somehow, despite everything we had already eaten, dessert still felt like a great idea. Some traditions should not be questioned.

bahrainthismonth.com | JULY 2026 SUMMER & STAYCATIONS 36 An Island Icon Kristian Harrison enjoys a relaxing stay at Gulf Hotel Bahrain, a Marriott Bonvoy property. He discovers a landmark address with rich history, warm service, extensive dining, comfortable rooms and superb leisure facilities. ew hotels in Bahrain carry the same sense of history as Gulf Hotel Bahrain. Opened in 1969, the property has long been part of the kingdom’s hospitality story, welcoming generations of residents, visitors, dignitaries, families and food lovers through its doors. It is one of those places that feels familiar even before check-in, partly because of its reputation and partly because so many people in Bahrain have a memory connected to it. From the moment I arrived, the experience was smooth and welcoming. The staff were extremely friendly throughout, whether at reception, around the restaurants, by the pool or in the leisure areas, and that warmth made the stay feel personal. A Bahrain Classic The rooms are comfortable, well equipped and designed for proper rest. There is a calm, traditional hotel feel to the accommodation, with the space, softness and practicality needed for a staycation. After a busy week, the room offered exactly what I wanted, a quiet place to unwind, switch off and enjoy the comfort of being looked after. The bed was particularly inviting, while the room had all the essentials for a relaxed stay, with enough space to settle in properly rather than simply drop off a bag and head back out. The property has the scale and range of a large hotel, but the room still gives you that private retreat feeling that is essential for a good staycation. F

bahrainthismonth.com | JULY 2026 SUMMER & STAYCATIONS 37 Dining Destination Food and beverage has always been one of the hotel’s biggest strengths and reasons to visit. Gulf Hotel Bahrain has an extensive collection of 19 restaurants and lounges, covering a wide range of cuisines and atmospheres. Whether guests are looking for a casual bite, a relaxed drink, a family meal or a more refined dinner, there is a huge amount of choice without needing to leave the property. For me, the highlight was Margarita Mexicana. The restaurant delivered exactly what I hoped for, high-quality, authentic Mexican food full of flavour, colour and freshness. The dishes felt generous and vibrant, with that comforting mix of spice, texture and warmth that makes Mexican cuisine so enjoyable when done properly. In a hotel known for its culinary variety, it still managed to make a strong individual impression. Poolside Ease The pool area is another major strength. Spacious, attractive and resort-like, it gives the hotel a genuine leisure feel in the middle of the city. It is the kind of pool area that makes you want to slow down, order something refreshing and spend a few hours doing very little except soaking up rays and relaxing. The wider leisure offering is also impressive. The spa is extensive, giving guests plenty of opportunity to relax and recharge, while the facilities add depth to the overall experience. Whether you are planning a full treatment, looking to unwind before dinner or simply want to make wellness part of the stay, the hotel has the scale and variety to make it worthwhile. What I enjoyed most about Gulf Hotel Bahrain was the feeling of being somewhere with history, personality and substance. It is a landmark hotel, but it does not rely on reputation alone. The comfortable rooms, excellent dining, impressive pool, extensive spa and genuinely friendly staff all come together to create a staycation that feels easy, enjoyable and distinctly Bahraini. Furthermore, as part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, Gulf Hotel Bahrain offers members exclusive benefits and rewarding stays.
