bahrainthismonth.com | JULY 2026 MOTORING 60 The Porsche Museum is paying tribute to one of the most important chapters in the company’s history with a new special exhibition, Raceborn, 75 Years of Porsche Motorsport, which runs until January 17, 2027. The exhibition marks 75 years since Porsche began a motorsport journey that continues to shape the brand’s identity. In 1951, the works-supported Porsche 356 SL achieved the company’s first class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, beginning a story that has since spanned circuits, rallies, hill climbs, endurance racing, factory programmes and customer competition. Achim Stejskal, Head of Porsche Heritage and Museum, says: “Porsche is motorsport. And motorsport has made Porsche what we are today.” Rather than presenting the history as a simple timeline, the museum explores Porsche Motorsport through six perspectives: racing classes, diversity, innovations, milestones, people and regulations. A red ribbon runs through the museum architecture like a racetrack, guiding visitors through the exhibition and creating a sense of movement, speed and dynamism. A Living Motorsport Story At the centre of the exhibition are 31 vehicles, each chosen not simply as an object but as a representation of a particular era, challenge, regulation, racing series or technical idea. Historic and contemporary racing cars are placed in direct conversation with one another, showing how Porsche has responded to the demands of competition across different periods. The 356 SL represents the company’s early international success, while the Formula E 99X Electric demonstrates how motorsport continues to evolve under changing technical conditions. The Porsche 963 reflects the modern world of prototype and endurance racing, while studies such as the Cayman GT4 e-Performance point towards questions being tested for the future. Tanja Schleicher, Curator at the Porsche Museum, explains that the cars tell stories of lightweight construction, aerodynamics and the robustness required in racing. The approach places technology within a broader historical and emotional context, allowing visitors to understand the thinking behind each machine. Designed for All Visitors The exhibition has also been created to welcome visitors with different levels of knowledge. It begins with a prologue before moving into categories such as Formula E, prototype and endurance racing, GT racing, one-make series and grassroots motorsport. A motorsport pyramid explains the structure of racing, while a glossary introduces key terminology. Concepts such as Balance of Performance are placed in context and a lenticular installation shows how different regulations influence vehicle design. A mini cinema gives insight into the Porsche Museum’s work with historic racing cars, including the questions that arise around restoration, preservation, technical authenticity and presentation. The programme also includes motorsport talks, held in German on five evenings each year, covering subjects such as historic racing cars, Formula E and behind-the-scenes work in motorsport. For younger visitors, Raceborn Kids brings the exhibition to life through child-friendly facts, interactive elements, sound, tactile experiences and digital applications. It explores questions such as why weight matters, how a team operates during a 24-hour race and why regulations change a racing car. Porsche Museum is celebrating 75 years of motorsport with a special exhibition exploring the cars, people, innovations and racing culture that shaped the brand. Raceborn Legacy
