What began as a new chapter all those years ago, has grown into a lifelong connection with a country I am both privileged and proud to call my enduring home now. This month’s issue celebrates the very spirit of what makes Bahrain so special to all who live here: its hospitality, history and heart. We begin with diplomacy and heritage. The opening ceremony, held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, welcomed His Highness Shaikh Khaled bin Hamad Al Khalifa, amongst other members of the royal family, senior ministers, the President of the Olympic Council of Asia, International Olympic Committee representatives and visiting royals from across the Gulf. The staging of the AYG in Manama celebrated youth, sport and regional unity. It marked the first time in 19 years that a GCC nation has hosted the continental event since Qatar’s Senior Asian Games in 2006.

Bahrain’s contingent comprised 204 athletes (150 boys and 54 girls) within a total delegation of 356. The Kingdom secured 13 medals: five gold, five silver and three bronze. Upgraded venues, enthusiastic volunteers and efficient organisation drew praise from athletes and visitors alike. Strong ticket sales, vibrant crowds and widespread broadcast coverage elevated the atmosphere, while local hospitality thrived with record hotel occupancy and retail gains. Beyond the medals, the AYG leaves a lasting legacy for Bahraini sport, inspiring greater participation and strengthening pathways for future champions.

bahrainthismonth.com | NOVEMBER 2025 INTERVIEW 20 Diplomatic Bridges Strengthened Egypt’s Ambassador to Bahrain, Her Excellency Riham Khalil, reflects on diplomacy, trade, tourism and culture, marking two years in Manama and previewing November’s Grand Egyptian Museum inauguration beside the Pyramids of Giza. Firstly, could you outline your career path to date, including your previous postings? I’m a proud Egyptian diplomat with 25 years of experience managing bilateral, multilateral and cultural portfolios. I have had the opportunity to serve in diverse roles in Cairo and abroad. During my diplomatic tenure, I served as Deputy Ambassador at the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the United Arab Emirates and as a member of the Egyptian Embassy in the United Kingdom. I have also served in several departments within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, handling dossiers such as economic affairs, climate change and consular assistance, in addition to my work at the Institute of Diplomatic Studies and for some time in crisis management. What are your top three priorities for Egypt– Bahrain relations over the next 12 months, and how will you measure success? This November marks two years since I assumed my duties as the Egyptian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain and I still can’t comprehend how fast the time has passed. These two years have been filled with warmth, hospitality, events, hard work and success. I have focused from day one on boosting our economic and trade ties, hand in hand with our historical fraternal bilateral relations between our two nations. Egypt and Bahrain enjoy close relations characterised by strong political, diplomatic, economic and cultural ties. I was proud to witness this relationship flourish under the leadership of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa. Ongoing coordination between the two leaders is particularly important given the situation in the Middle East and the shared desire to establish lasting peace and security. The visit of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, witnessed fruitful bilateral meetings with His Excellency Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Egyptian officials, in addition to convening the Egyptian-Bahraini business forum, which marked a new road map for economic and trade partnerships and resulted in signing several agreements in various fields to boost our cooperation. Our governments are focusing on enhancing and maximising economic cooperation so that it is reflected in the bilateral trade volume. On the political and multilateral front, Egypt and Bahrain see eye to eye on many issues as we strive to ensure peace, security and stability in the region and beyond. The relations between Cairo and Manama stand as a regional and international role model, characterised by strong intertwined relations between the people of both countries as well as an excellent and functional one on the official levels. Where do you see the greatest potential for bilateral trade and investment growth? There are key sectors with great potential to further strengthen our economic cooperation, including tourism, industrial partnership, food security, green economy, financial cooperation, communications, IT and logistical service. This is matched by a strong mutual will between Cairo and Manama to boost economic ties and investment opportunities, advanced through a very important governmental mechanism. The Egyptian-Bahraini Governmental Committee for Commercial, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, headed by Egypt’s Minister of Finance and Bahrain’s Minister of Finance and National Economy, over the past two years has built a platform for dialogue and created momentum aimed at driving progress in our economic partnership. It has also played a leading role in identifying potential cooperation opportunities across key sectors. Tourism is a huge area of collaboration between Egypt and Bahrain; what are the latest figures in this regard as it continues to grow? Tourism reflects the deep connection between our two brotherly peoples. It is fair to say that both Egyptians and Bahrainis feel at home in each other’s countries as we share the same values and cultural bonds.

bahrainthismonth.com | NOVEMBER 2025 INTERVIEW 21 We are pleased to see tourism flows increasing steadily and we continue to work together to expand air connectivity and diversify tourism offerings, whether cultural, culinary, sports or medical. Egypt offers a wide variety of destinations that appeal to every taste and we warmly invite our brothers and sisters in Bahrain to experience the depth and diversity of Egypt’s heritage and modern attractions. We are confident that every visit will offer a truly unique experience. Speaking about tourism, I have to mention our main touristic landmark, the Grand Egyptian Museum. It’s a real gem when it comes to exploring history and civilisation. We look forward to welcoming many tourists from Bahrain and the world to share our pride of Ancient Egypt civilisation and explore its monumental architecture, unique characteristics as well as eternal achievements. How are you strengthening cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries? Cultural relations remain a cornerstone of our bilateral ties, reflecting the depth and richness of both civilisations. This bond is expressed through cultural encounters, most recently a tribute to the legendary Umm Kulthum at Bahrain’s National Theatre, as well as through the vibrant Egyptian community that continues to contribute to Bahrain’s progress and prosperity. We are also working to broaden educational cooperation by promoting academic exchanges, scholarships and greater participation of Bahraini students in Egyptian universities. Looking ahead, we plan several cultural initiatives, including a reception marking the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum. These efforts serve one shared goal: to deepen mutual understanding and celebrate the enduring connection between our two brotherly nations. Regarding the museum opening in November, please can you tell us more about that and what visitors can expect? We are proud and excited to announce the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum, one of the most anticipated cultural events of the year. Located beside the Great Pyramids of Giza, the museum is the largest in the world dedicated to a single civilisation. Built with architectural excellence that harmonises with its historic surroundings, it stands as a monumental tribute to the legacy of Ancient Egypt. The museum will showcase thousands of artefacts, including the treasures of King Tutankhamun, displayed according to international standards. Visitors will gain perspectives not only on Ancient Egypt but on the evolution of human civilisation itself. I send an open invitation to all to visit the museum and am confident that it will be an unforgettable experience. What are the biggest challenges you face in your position as Ambassador? I consider myself fortunate to serve in the Kingdom of Bahrain where I have experienced nothing but warmth and generosity from the leadership to government officials. I extend appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its constant cooperation and support. Equally inspiring is the gracious spirit of the Bahraini people, whose kindness and openness motivate me to work to strengthen our historic and strategic partnership. My focus remains on deepening the bonds of friendship, expanding cooperation and ensuring that our shared vision for development and prosperity continues to advance. What consular services does the Embassy offer to the Egyptian community in support? The Egyptian community in Bahrain enjoys a safe and prosperous life. I express my sincere gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, as well as members of the Bahraini government, for the care and generosity they extend to our citizens. At the Embassy, we are committed to serving our community through consular and legal assistance. We strive to ensure that services are delivered swiftly and efficiently, reflecting the spirit of cooperation and brotherhood that defines the relationship between Egypt and Bahrain. Scan to Watch

bahrainthismonth.com | NOVEMBER 2025 INTERVIEW 24 On Sacred Heart Church’s 85th anniversary, His Excellency, Bishop Aldo Berardi, exclusively tells Kristian Harrison about Bahrain’s tradition of tolerance, the parish’s diverse faithful and his regional mission. Guardian of Sacred Faith

bahrainthismonth.com | NOVEMBER 2025 INTERVIEW 25 What does Sacred Heart Church mean to Bahrain after 85 years? Sacred Heart is our foundation here. The first bells rang at Christmas 1939 and the church opened in 1940 with the blessing of the Emir. Priests first served from Iraq then from Yemen and it was also the foundation of the Sacred Heart school. People once said the church was too big, now it is too small after the growth of the region. It was the first in the Gulf, followed by Kuwait then the Emirates. Historically it is very important for us. Sacred Heart now welcomes a large and very diverse congregation of migrant and expatriate Catholics who worship in multiple languages and traditions. In your view, what makes this parish community pastorally unique compared with Catholic parishes elsewhere in the world? Diversity. More than 50 nationalities pray together here, one church and one Catholic faith from many origins. We serve different nationalities, traditions and rites. All gather in one church in different ways but united around the bishop as a centre of unity. You will declare Sacred Heart Church a Vicarial Shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus during this 85th Jubilee year. Why was it important to formalise that new status now and what will it mean in practical terms for the faithful who come here? In the Catholic tradition we have shrines and basilicas. The Holy See proclaims basilicas while locally we can recognise shrines. Our Mother Church inside the parish compound will be proclaimed a shrine, a place of spirituality, worship and counselling where all are welcome. As Sacred Heart, it expresses the love of God in Jesus. The Kingdom of Bahrain has publicly supported the Catholic community, including granting land for and inaugurating the Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia in Awali on land donated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa; how would you describe the culture of tolerance in the Kingdom today? Bahrain has a long tradition of acceptance and coexistence. The Hindu temple is over 200 years old and the history of Bahrain shows everyone is welcome. We are now maybe more than 150,000 Catholics here. We have diplomatic relations with the Holy See and the visit of Pope Francis in 2022 was historic. We are in good relation with the country. We feel freedom and we feel blessed to live in these conditions. As Apostolic Vicar of Northern Arabia you are responsible for the Catholic Church across the wider region. How do you serve that wider mission beyond Bahrain’s borders? The vicariate covers Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Many come from Saudi Arabia, where there is no church, yet there are about one million Catholics. Thanks be to God, there is a bridge so they can come. The Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia in Awali is a place of prayer, devotion and meeting. It is also known as a historical and tourist site. Our parish in Bahrain is a federation and a place of unity. What are the most urgent needs and challenges for Catholics in the region in 2025? Places of worship is of primary importance because we are many. Organising schedules on feasts like Easter and Christmas is difficult since everyone comes according to rite and language. Another challenge is keeping unity across Indian, Middle Eastern, Eastern and Western traditions. We try to answer with priests from different countries who understand people’s histories and sensibilities. People also carry the worries of their homelands, such as earthquakes, typhoons and political problems, whilst we support one another. When you stand in the church today, what do you most want to protect for the next generation? 85 years may seem little compared to 1000-year churches, but for this region it is important. We see a link with the first Christian communities before the establishment of Islam. We want to show loyalty and thanksgiving to the country and keep the patrimony of our churches for transmission to the new generation. We have programmes in catechism, Christian formation and history. We want them to love this country and to love our faith and God. What will the 85th anniversary celebrations involve? On November 8 we officially proclaimed the Mother Church a Vicarial or Diocesan Shrine. The first part is religious for prayer and communion with the Catholic Church. The second part is cultural and historical, inviting others from outside the church, other churches and the authorities to appreciate how this church has been kept for 85 years. What is your message to Catholics arriving in Bahrain who have not yet discovered the church? Many are surprised to find a fully organised parish here, plus the cathedral which is not a parish but a place of unity and the Mother Church of the vicariate. For Catholics we provide all spiritual services. For non-Catholics we present the cultural beauty of our churches. Architecture matters because we worship in a beautiful place. For Catholics this is your home. Bahrain may be your place of work for some years but your family is here and the “Bahrain is a good place to meet other religions and churches. We share on ethical, social and educational topics for respect of human rights and justice.” Scan to Watch same church and tradition are here. Bahrain is a good place to meet other religions and churches. We share on ethical, social and educational topics for respect of human rights and justice.

bahrainthismonth.com | NOVEMBER 2025 DINING 28 The Embassy of Italy in Bahrain and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) Celebrate Italian Cuisine in November: A Living Culture Between Tradition and Innovation, Health and Sustainability Italian cuisine is universally recognised as one of the most influential and beloved in the world. However, reducing it to a mere expression of taste would be profoundly limiting. It is, in every sense, a living form of material culture: a collective language that expresses identity, territory, social relationships, and knowledge passed down through time. Its candidacy for recognition as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage is precisely intended to honour this richness. Every Italian dish tells a story: from northern risottos to southern pastas, from rustic soups to coastal seafood preparations, the regional variety is extraordinary. It reflects biodiversity, climate, local resources, and traditional knowhow. The intergenerational transmission of techniques and recipes, often rooted in family contexts, has ensured the continuity and evolution of a culinary heritage that blends craftsmanship, creativity, and precision. Beyond its identity dimension, Italian cuisine stands out for its ability to innovate while remaining anchored in the quality and simplicity of its ingredients. Today, in response to society’s evolving needs, chefs, agronomists, and nutritionists are rewriting the Italian gastronomic lexicon by integrating food technologies, reviving forgotten local varieties, and adopting more sustainable production processes. The growing use of long-forgotten flours, lowtemperature cooking techniques, and the revival of ancestral culinary traditions are just some of the innovations gaining ground. The goal is never to betray tradition, but to adapt it to a modern context with care and respect. Sustainability has also taken centre stage. The Italian approach to cooking, based on seasonality, portion balance, and respect for raw materials, offers a replicable model for reducing food waste, minimising ecological footprints, and promoting more resilient agri-food systems. Creative reuse of leftovers, preference for local products, and the centrality of “homemade” practices are not only culturally rooted but also scientifically supported in terms of positive environmental impact. Italian cuisine serves as a tool for public health. Traditional preparations rich in plant-based foods provide dietary fibre and unsaturated fats, aligning with major international nutritional recommendations and helping to prevent chronic diseases such as obesity, hypertension, and metabolic disorders. Moreover, the use of herbs such as basil, parsley, mint, sage, thyme, oregano, bay leaf, and chilli pepper, which often define the distinctive flavour of Italian dishes (like basil in Genoese pesto), helps reduce salt usage during preparation and consumption. Scientific evidence confirms that excessive dietary salt plays a significant role in the onset of hypertension, one of the most critical cardiovascular risk factors. To fully enjoy these benefits, always ensure the product bears the Made in Italy label, as counterfeit imitations are widespread and can mislead consumers. Perhaps the most enduring value of Italian cuisine lies in its social function. Preparing, sharing, and consuming food is a daily act that strengthens family and community bonds, fosters intercultural dialogue, and reinforces a sense of belonging. It is also an educational space where one learns manual skills, seasonality, resource respect, and food awareness. In conclusion, Italian cuisine today represents a dynamic synthesis of heritage and experimentation. It embodies memory and future, flavour and well-being, local roots and global openness. It is a living heritage, capable of adapting to the challenges of our time without losing authenticity, and continues to nourish not only bodies but also minds and cultures. Celebrating Italian Culinary Heritage in Bahrain To honour this vibrant tradition, the Embassy of Italy in Bahrain and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) are hosting a series of events throughout November. These include masterclasses, film screenings, and tastings, generously supported by The Domain Hotel and Spa, Ristorante Sapori di Toscana, SITAF, Chtaura, Lulu Hypermarkets, and Restaurant Del Bosco. bahrainthismonth.com | NOVEMBER 2025 LUXURY 30 Luxury Mindset The True luxury has never been about excess. It is about craftsmanship, endurance, and intention. To live luxuriously is to live with discernment; to recognise beauty not just in what glitters, but in what lasts. It is as much about a piece of jewellery as it is about a philosophy of living. It is an understanding that refinement is quiet confidence, not noise. This issue explores that evolving definition of luxury. Across the worlds of design, jewellery, and hospitality, we are seeing a collective shift, a return to meaning. In fine jewellery, artistry and sentiment once again outweigh spectacle. The world’s most celebrated houses are drawing inspiration from nature, heritage, and emotion, creating pieces that speak not only of status but of story. From the timeless grace of David Morris’s latest collections, each handcrafted to embody the poetry of light, to Devji’s modern expressions of devotion, where the purity of gold meets the spirit of tradition — elegance is being rewritten for today’s wearer. The season’s jewellery trends echo this change, with pearls, diamonds, and sculptural metals capturing both nostalgia and novelty, adored by celebrities and collectors alike. Beyond what we wear lies what we build. At Mint Design, sustainability is not a slogan but a strategy. Founded on the belief that aesthetics and accountability must coexist, the locally founded design studio approaches every project as an opportunity to redefine contemporary living. Its philosophy speaks to a generation that wants its spaces to be as intelligent as they are beautiful, proof that luxury and responsibility are no longer opposites but partners in progress. And of course, no conversation on luxury would be complete without the art of experience. The Sheraton Bahrain embodies this, a heritage hotel that continues to define opulence through service, setting, and a sense of quiet grandeur. In its marble halls and curated menus, one finds not just hospitality, but legacy. Taken together, these stories, among many others, remind us that luxury today is deeply human. It is about connection to heritage, to craft, to the planet, and to oneself. It is about choosing quality over quantity, purpose over possession. This is not luxury for the few, but for the thoughtful. A quiet revolution of taste, integrity, and grace.

bahrainthismonth.com | NOVEMBER 2025 LUXURY 32 The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa has unveiled its newly renovated Grand Ambassador Ballroom. General Manager Petr Dubsky tells Bahrain This Month more about how it is setting a new standard for luxury events and hospitality in the Kingdom.

bahrainthismonth.com | NOVEMBER 2025 LUXURY 33 When it comes to iconic venues in Bahrain, few can rival the legacy of the Grand Ambassador Ballroom. The celebrated space returns to the spotlight after a remarkable renovation, marking a new chapter in the property’s distinguished history. Mr. Dubsky explains that the redesign was driven by one clear vision: to elevate the ballroom’s grandeur while modernising its form and function. “Our focus was to preserve its timeless elegance while introducing contemporary design, enhanced lighting, state-of-the-art technology and greater functionality,” he says. “The result is a setting that remains true to its heritage yet perfectly suited for today’s most prestigious events, from weddings to conferences and grand celebrations.” Innovative Features and Teamwork A key highlight of the redesign is the ballroom’s new sense of space and light. The refreshed layout makes the venue appear larger, brighter and more inviting, with the introduction of LED screens providing a dynamic visual element that enhances the atmosphere of any occasion. Beyond the ballroom itself, the pre-function areas have also been completely transformed. They now feature modern design elements, upgraded facilities and the flexibility to cater to both corporate and social gatherings, all crafted to ensure an elevated guest experience from arrival to farewell. However, such an ambitious undertaking was not without its challenges. Coordinating multiple suppliers, managing timelines and sourcing materials while minimising disruption to guests demanded meticulous planning. Mr. Dubsky credits the seamless delivery of the project to strong collaboration and dedication across teams: “Thanks to the efforts of our project partners, suppliers and our in-house team, we were able to overcome these hurdles and deliver the renovation on schedule.” Enhancing the Guest Experience For guests and event organisers, the benefits are immediately tangible. The Grand Ambassador Ballroom now boasts a modern yet welcoming ambience, complete with brand-new furniture and advanced facilities designed for effortless customisation. Event planners will find greater flexibility and integrated technology that enhance both the practical and aesthetic aspects of every occasion. Importantly, the hotel’s staff have undergone comprehensive training to familiarise themselves with the new features, ensuring that the service continues to meet, and exceed, the Radisson Blu standard of excellence. This renovation follows closely on the heels of another major milestone: the transformation of the hotel’s Health Club and Spa earlier this year. Together, the two projects represent one of the most significant waves of investment in the hotel’s history.“I am extremely proud to have overseen these landmark renovations,” reveals Mr. Dubsky. “It is deeply rewarding to see these projects come to life, knowing they elevate the guest experience and reaffirm our position as one of Bahrain’s leading hospitality destinations.” Continuing the Legacy The success of these projects, he notes, reflects not only on the hard work of the team but also to the vision and support of the owning company, National Hotels Company. Their investment has enabled the property to maintain its reputation for excellence while continuously evolving to meet contemporary expectations. As for what lies ahead, Mr. Dubsky hints that the journey of renewal is far from over. “Our next focus will be on further elevating our facilities and guest touchpoints to ensure we remain at the forefront of hospitality in Bahrain,” he says. While details remain under wraps, he assures that future upgrades will continue to embody the brand’s commitment to style, comfort and innovation. Scan to Watch

bahrainthismonth.com | NOVEMBER 2025 LUXURY 35 Luxury Masterpiece - Concordia The cover of our November edition captures a quiet moment where art and travel meet. The original photo, taken by Studio12’s Kiran Varghese, came to be during a photowalk led by Rasha Yousif in collaboration with Fujifilm Bahrain. It features model Sharbani Ganguly standing before Concordia, the stained-glass masterpiece by Sir Brian Clarke at Bahrain International Airport. The installation fills the frame with vibrant colour, florals and birds in flight. Light passes through the panels and alters the mood of the space. Sharbani’s calm silhouette, in flowing traditional dress, provides a human counterpoint to the artwork’s energy. The contrast invites reflection on movement and stillness, on personal journeys within public spaces. Our cover celebrates Bahrain as a meeting place for culture and creativity. It shows how public art can transform everyday, offering transit into a place of pause and wonder. More than an image, the photograph is an invitation to look closely at the intersections of identity, place and the small moments that shape travel. @studio12bh bahrainthismonth.com Arts | Culture | Motoring | Sports | Interviews | Lifestyle | Dining | Nightlife NOVEMBER 2025 | BD2 / SR20 YOUR GUIDE TO A GREAT WAY OF LIFE Since 1997 Issue 339

bahrainthismonth.com | NOVEMBER 2025 LUXURY 37 Since 1950, Devji has shaped Bahrain’s jewellery landscape with meticulous 21k and 22k gold craft. Two signature lines—Matfi and Innayat—distil heritage into contemporary design. This is history in the making. This is 75 years of Bahraini Gold. Innayat: Filigree with Bahraini Soul Innayat looks to classic Bahraini motifs and the delicate art of filigree. Gold elements are hand-formed and accented with carefully chosen semiprecious stones. The result is light, lacy jewellery that carries cultural memory without feeling nostalgic. Techniques honed over centuries meet present-day proportion and wearability. A Legacy in 21k and 22k Devji’s long run rests on consistency: purer alloys, steady workmanship and designs that outlast trends. Matfi and Innayat show two paths—one textural and contemporary, the other intricate and heritage-led—towards the same goal: enduring value in gold. As the house marks 75 years, its proposition is simple and still relevant in Bahrain—craft, culture and clarity of design. Matfi: Texture over Shine Matfi challenges the default gloss of yellow gold. Surfaces are worked with varied finishes and patterns, giving depth and tactility. The pieces read as discreet and sculptural—refined for collectors who prize craft over show. Fine goldwork rooted in local culture, finished to exacting standards, and designed to be worn, not stored. The effect is modern but grounded, proof that detail, not dazzle, signals luxury. @devjisince1950 Visit them in Hall 8, Booth E-10 at Jewellery Arabia.

bahrainthismonth.com | OCTOBER 2025 LUXURY 38 Mint Design founder Isa Al Thawadi reveals all about creating a design firm that combines refined aesthetics with hands-on project management, with the aim of crafting spaces that captivate as well as they function.

bahrainthismonth.com | NOVEMBER 2025 LUXURY 39 Established in 2023, the studio was created to unite imaginative design with steadfast delivery, preventing clients from being left to navigate the stress and ambiguity of separate build teams. Bridging the Gap “When we launched Mint Design, the gap we saw was not just in design talent, but in holistic accountability,” Mr. Al Thawadi explains. “Clients often felt like they were hiring one team for the beautiful vision and then a separate, disconnected team for the stressful, messy part; the actual building. We stepped in to be the single point of control. We handle the aesthetics and the nitty-gritty of project supervision and quality checks. Essentially, we filled the need for a company that takes the worry away from the client.” This philosophy underpins Mint Design’s ‘Design-to-Delivery’ approach. From the earliest sketches, the firm integrates project managers and QA/QC specialists so that buildability is tested and iterated before documents leave the studio. “We do not just hand over drawings,” he says. “We have our supervisors and quality-control specialists review the design for buildability. The people who created the vision are the ones who literally stand on site to defend it, ensuring the finished space is a faithful realisation of the initial dream.” A Focus on Precision Mint Design treats quality assurance with paramount importance. It is a process that combines detailed specifications, approved mock-ups and pre-construction meetings with daily on-site walks, cross-referencing of samples and strict hold points before moving on to the next stage. “We are basically the client’s personal quality inspectors on site,” Mr. Al Thawadi notes. That insistence on precision ensures that materials read and feel as intended, joinery lines align perfectly and finishes reflect the curated palette chosen in the studio. Innovation is a second pillar of the company’s growth. Mint Design is prioritising modular, prefabricated and off-site construction methods to elevate quality while compressing programme times. By manufacturing key building components in controlled environments, the firm can reduce on-site waste, improve finish quality and accelerate delivery. “Once the modules arrive on site, they are assembled efficiently, reducing construction time and minimising disruption. It is a smarter, cleaner and more sustainable way to build, perfect for keeping pace with the Gulf region’s fast-moving development goals,” he says. Sustainability and Pragmatism Sustainability at Mint Design is pragmatic and performance driven. The studio emphasises passive strategies first, such as maximising natural light, optimising orientation and improving thermal performance, so that energy savings are built into the DNA of a project. Locally sourced materials and regionally efficient supply chains are prioritised to reduce embodied carbon and lead times. “Sustainability does not have to mean more expensive or slower,” Mr. Al Thawadi stresses. “It is about being smarter and more efficient upfront. By prioritising high-impact, low-cost choices like high-efficiency lighting and thermal insulation, we save clients money in the long run. Being green is also being financially smart.” Mint Design’s approach is also responsive to changing needs in workplaces and learning environments. The trend away from fixed, single-use spaces towards flexible, humancentred design has influenced the firm’s recent commissions. For offices the focus is on making the workplace desirable, almost club-like, with hospitality-grade amenities, refined acoustics and zoning for concentration, collaboration and social interaction. For education, adaptability is crucial. Classrooms now need modular furniture, integrated technology and abundant natural light to support varied teaching styles. In both sectors: wellbeing, choice and comfort are paramount. The Ethos in Action The studio’s project-management capability was tested on a recent, complex conversion when a portfolio of residential flats was reconfigured into a functioning university campus. The challenge was not aesthetic. It was regulatory and functional, requiring re-engineering for fire safety, acoustics, accessibility and specific educational codes. Mint Design created a parallel approvals strategy, liaising with authorities while finalising the design. The integrated approach saved months of delay and allowed the team to deliver a safe, accredited and elegant teaching environment on a tight schedule. Looking ahead, Mint Design is poised to scale. The immediate objective is to cement the studio’s reputation as a full-service projectmanagement company, taking on larger commercial and mixed-use developments that require cohesive oversight. Regionally, the firm is exploring collaborations across the GCC, with short-term project-based support in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Locally, partnerships with technology providers will allow deeper integration of smart-home and smart-building systems, aligning luxury finishes with intelligent, user-friendly operation. “At heart, we are about responsibility as much as creativity,” Mr Al Thawadi concludes. “Great design must be realised with the same level of care that created it. We designed it, and we will personally ensure it gets built exactly right.” “Great design must be realised with the same level of care that created it.
