In addition, 2014 offers more reasons to rejoice as one of the school’s year 13 students received an offer to study at the prestigious Cambridge University in the UK. Simran Lamba, an Indian national who has lived in Bahrain for 10 years, has been attending the BSB since year 10. Following an interview in late December, she was offered a seat to study law at Churchill College, which is part of the University of Cambridge. “We are very proud of Simran’s achievements, especially with her GCSE results which were the best on the island,” says Nick Atkins, head of the Sixth Form at BSB. “She had spent a considerable amount of time constructing her application. With the support of her family, friends and the BSB staff, she became our first successful application — the first of many in the future.” The hard work is not over for Simran as she still has to achieve three A* grades at A level, which is no mean feat for any student. She has the full backing of the school. “This year sees a record number of applications to the UK and the US. As the Sixth Form has over 115 students and the numbers are expected to increase, the chance of more students attaining top places at top universities is even higher,” he notes.
