VIVA BAHRAIN This year, there is more recognition for football players in the Kingdom as VIVA and the Bahrain Football Association (BFA) launch a first-of-its-kind awards programme. The telecom operator, who are the official sponsors of the national football league, will recognise the best performers of the VIVA Football League 2013-2014 season. Five winners will be chosen by a distinguished panel of judges from the BFA and will be awarded with an all-paidexpenses trip to Manchester, UK. The exciting package includes VIP tickets to attend a match at Old Trafford stadium. “The league has been a great community-driven initiative, which plays a significant role in the positive growth of football in the Kingdom,” says Shaikh Ziyad bin Faisal Al Khalifa, chief governmental affairs officer, VIVA Bahrain. “This has not only enabled us to connect with the youth through local sports clubs, but also to support them with opportunities to pursue their passion for the game. The introduction of these awards will be a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the league’s most promising stars and will be an inspiration for upcoming football players.” The awards will be presented to winners across five different categories. These comprise Player of the Season, Best Goal Keeper of the Season, Top Scorer, Young Player of the Year and Manager of the Steason. “We have witnessed extraordinary performances by some of the players, who demonstrated great attitude and determination on the field. We wanted to encourage players to improve, while rewarding them for their hard work,” says Arif Al Mannai, head of the BFA marketing committee. “We have enjoyed our association with VIVA, which has been an active contributor in the development of this nation-wide tournament.
