90 July 2012 BTM downtimeapps Brain over Brawn APPS OF THE MONTH Move the Box (iOS, Android) The title is quite self-explanatory. This game is purely based on logic. Your mission is to clear the dock by moving, swapping or dropping the boxes. If three or more boxes of the same kind are in the same line, they disappear. Pretty simple, huh? Not really. The catch is that you are allowed a fixed number of moves in each level. Get ready to set on a mission around the world with 144 exciting levels that take you to harbour cities everywhere. For those who just can’t crack the code, they provide a fair share of hints. The Mind Game (iOS) Known as one of the most intense intelligence games for the iPhone, this game challenges you in unique, surprising ways with its riddles. Can you complete all the riddles of The Mind Game? Probably not. Will you have fun? You definitely will. Add a catchy tune, toss in your helper Alfred and the end result is awesome. You can be good with numbers, shapes, geography, intuition, and maybe even space-time manipulation; this app will still find a way to stump you. It’s all right if you just can’t solve it because it always has a tip to spare. This is only a matter of thinking out of the box. With the temperature on the rise, people have got their running shoes off. Here are three ways to give your brain a workout. Brain Tuner Lite (iOS, Android) RATING: WHAT IS IT? Get your brain in shape with Brain Tuner, a great math game for all ages. It takes less than a minute a day to tune your brain and this is a simple yet efficient way to give those neurons some exercise. This free app from Greengar has several versions making the rounds including the recently launched sequel which is just as entertaining as the first. THE GOOD: Most of us tend to forget basic math. If we haven’t forgotten it, we’re just a little slower than the kids. This game is a great way to keep on top of your numbers. Players have seen improvement in their speed of calculations after having a go at this game. You can either try to top your own high score or you could find out, once and for all, who amongst your friends is the smartest. The multiplayer feature is our favourite as compared to the other gaming options — timer, classic and infinite. THE BAD: It is known to be quite addictive. Unless you’re working with numbers on a daily basis, there is every possibility that you aren’t smarter than a fifth grader. So even though some of the questions might seem a bit silly and unchallenging, be sure the tough ones are just around the corner. Besides, the test is against time as well. VERDICT: Let us hope you still know your multiplication tables.
