Bahrain This Month - October 2026

bahrainthismonth.com | OCTOBER 2026 INTERVIEW 23 His visits now include trips to a local orphanage, a school for blind children and the temple. These experiences have given him a renewed appreciation for his own life and circumstances. He says: “Personally, it means the world to me to be able to visit and give a little. I just wish I could do more.” In memory of his father, Mr. McRae purchased a traditional wooden-style bench hut where elderly members of the community can gather, sit and spend time together. His longer-term ambition is to purchase a piece of land and place it in a trust, ensuring it can only be used for community activities and can never be sold. A Bahrain Connection The project has also developed a meaningful connection with Bahrain. Mr. McRae credits his British Club family, close friends and supporters from African & Eastern with helping him expand his contributions. He organised a special event at the British Club where he cooked dishes inspired by lessons he had taken in Thailand. Members and nonmembers attended, helping to raise awareness of his work and the needs of the community. The relationship Mr. McRae has built with those managing the temple rests on remarkable trust. He has left a bank card in their care, yet it has never been used without his permission. Every withdrawal has matched the amount he authorised. For him, this honesty is further evidence of the values he hopes to support. He says: “It is another sign of integrity and trust which I find truly amazing.” As long as he is working and has funds to spare, Mr. McRae intends to continue visiting and contributing. His hope is to protect a culture of caring for loved ones while giving local families, elderly residents and young people greater hope for the future.
