88 November 2016 www.bahrainthismonth.com THE WORLD TIME CHRONOGRAPH Collectors and connoisseurs of mechanical timepieces were floored when they laid eyes on the latest Patek Philippe World Time Chronograph. This new model in the regular collection pairs two highly popular complications in one watch. It combines the Genevan manufacture’s patented World Time mechanism with a proprietary selfwinding chronograph movement, and has a dial with a blue, manually guilloched centre. It has 343 intricate parts and 38 jewels set in its elegant body. The power reserve lasts for a minimum of 50 and a maximum of 55 hours. The chronograph’s case is 18K white gold with a sapphire-crystal case back, and is waterresistant to 30 metres. Its hand-stitched alligator strap has a masculine appeal in matt navy blue with a fold-over clasp in 18K gold. TIME TO SHINE BAHRAIN JEWELLERY CENTRE jewellery&watches THE ANNUAL CALENDAR Patek Philippe’s second debut at Baselworld 2016 was the Annual Calendar that very tastefully recalls the 20th anniversary of its patented namesake, the successful run of which began in Basel in 1996, with the piece being voted ‘Watch of the Year’ a few months later. Since then, the Annual Calendar has been crafted in 21 versions, this one being model number 22. The previous versions included ladies’ diamond-set models with mother-of-pearl dials, not to mention the numerous variations in platinum, yellow gold, white gold and rose gold with eclectic dial designs. Indicating the day of the week, the date and the month, and requiring correction only in February every year, this watch has a minimum of 35 hours and maximum 45 hours as power reserve. Its rose-gold casing encloses a brass, silvery, white or opaline dial with applied breguet numerals in 18K gold. The rich alligator strap has a Calatrava foldover clasp in 18K gold. This ingenious mechanism has emerged as one of Patek Philippe’s flagship models.
