Busheiri Gardens in Budaiya The BSPCA Thrift Shop will hold its annual Festive Fayre on Saturday from 1pm to 5pm. Be sure to save the date as this is a great opportunity to purchase some lovely goods at bargain prices. A range of luxury branded items will be on offer including Coach, Karen Millen, Diesel, Ted Baker, LK Bennett, Paul Smith and many others. As always at these events, only the best ladies’ and gents’ clothing, handbags and shoes are selected and all items either still have the tags on or are as good as new. The Thrift Shop is the main source of income of the BSPCA and all funds go towards caring for the animals at the Animal Welfare Centre (AWC) and the free CNR programme for compound cats and stray dogs. November 29 Event? Movie Night Venue? La Fontaine Centre of Contemporary Art A BIOPIC DRAMA A French-British biographical film, The Lady, will be screened at La Fontaine this month. Directed by Luc Besson, it stars Michelle Yeoh as Aung San Suu Kyi and David Thewlis as her late husband Michael Aris. In 1947, when Suu Kyi is two years old, her father, Aung San, leads Burma to independence. But soon afterwards, he and some of his colleagues are assassinated by a group of armed men in uniform. As an adult, Suu Kyi goes to England, finds a loving husband and has a happy family life. But in 1988, her mother’s poor health forces her to return to Burma where her father is still widely remembered. She realises that political change is needed in Burma and is soon drawn into the movement to promote reform. She devotes herself to activities in support of goals of greater political freedoms. The screening starts at 8pm and tickets are priced at BD10, which can be used as credit at the restaurant on the same evening. The restaurant starts serving from 6.30pm.
