Al Riwaq Art Space is inviting submissions from emerging artists, curators, public speakers and creative professionals to become part of its biggest annual public art celebration: The Nest. The event, which is a combination of past programmes Alwan 338 and Market 338, is an annual arts festival functioning as a strategic platform for the promotion and dissemination of local design culture. Functioning at the intersection between art, commerce and design, it is a community-oriented model which combines public art installations with a vendors’ market, bringing together creatives and businesses in the local area. This year, The Nest explores the ways and means culture is fused and integrated to celebrate the cultural fusions found within Bahrain. This year offers a specially-curated programme of public art, workshops and pop-up events in accordance with the theme of Melting Pot, offering Bahrainis a chance to be reintroduced to each other. As people, we are defined by our habits, rituals and traditions. Throughout the Arab world and its diaspora, these traditions tell their stories of where we come from and how far we have travelled. The Nest explores the heart of deeply symbolic practices that have been passed down from family to family, generation to generation.
