26 July 2012 BTM happeningsthismonth Summer camp organisers have started to confirm visits to explore the new state-of-the-art Bahrain Science Center (BSC). The centre, which falls under the Bahrain Ministry of Social Development, will run workshops over the summer school holiday period with a wide range of activities that are intertwined with scientific topics. “We are delighted with the response so far,” says Khalid Ishaq, assistant undersecretary of community development. “Our goal is to help students build solid foundations for future academic studies and we look forward to welcome these groups.” Children will be spurred into motion with a series of fun-filled games and hands-on activities. From science shows, storytelling, craft to educational games, the centre has organised something for everyone through its interactive workshops. Attendees will enter a world of imagination, as BSC storytellers bring tales from around the world to life. The entertaining and exciting events are designed to develop essential life skills for young visitors. “Summer workshops not only supply strong support for the school curriculum but are a perfect summer activity, too. It will be a place of fun and provides a new destination for children to beat the summer heat,” Khalid continues. “BSC is not just about science; it is about fun, innovation, discoveries, invention, developing talents and life skills, and becoming a smart Bahraini citizen.” Currently operated and managed by MTE Studios, BSC is the first of its kind in the country and all the displays are designed to be educational. Schools in Bahrain started exploring the new centre by appointments prior to its official launch, with great success since it opened doors earlier this year. The centre is located in a colourful three-storey building along Riyadh Avenue in Isa Town, near the Manama/Salmabad intersection. Inside are six interactive exhibition galleries, an auditorium, four laboratories, a café and a shop. BSC aims to promote awareness of the importance of science and technology, complement the school curriculum, stimulate curiosity and innovation, and create a forum for public debate on science and technology issues. Additionally there are science shows, talks, debates, demonstrations, dissections and star gazing. In future, BSC will offer interschool competitions, excursions to places of scientific interest, camping trips and many other exciting activities. E Visit www.social.gov.bh.
