76 February 2013 www.bahrainthismonth.com The battle for the hearts and minds of customers is a perennial issue for any business; Zain takes this to heart through the way it interacts with the community in which it operates. Over the past year Zain has expanded the scope of its corporate social responsibilities (CSR) to push environment awareness among students and the youth market. “The ‘Go Green’ initiative allowed school students to participate in seminars on the need to reduce, re-use and recycle waste,” says Zain Bahrain general manager, Mohammed Zainalabedin. “It was an opportunity to address the youth market directly and make them stakeholders in their future, with Zain-sponsored recycling skips to segregate waste into paper, plastic and glass in their school zones in Isa Town.” Zain has been and continues to be a major sponsor of basketball activities in the Kingdom and also has supported events organised by the Bahrain Social Media Club over the past year. A technology leader Although the Bahrain arm of the Zain Group might be relatively small in revenue terms it more than makes up for that in the role it takes in deploying new technologies. “Making technology accessible and impactful for customers is a core commitment at Zain,” adds Mohammed. “The Bahrain operations have set excellent benchmarks in terms of technological breakthroughs, customer service innovations and community service projects. Last year was an excellent year for pushing the envelope, and we have achieved that by packaging our services and the latest products to offer the best value at ‘better than free’ terms.” Enhancing services Zain Bahrain has underscored its commitment to the future through a two-year, US$100 million investment that started in 2012 and runs into 2013. “This significant investment will ensure we stay at the cutting edge of technological innovation and will enable us to adequately service our growing customer base and to meet their demands,” Mohammed says. “The network upgrade, including continued investments in 4G/LTE, gives us the technological muscle to add even more products, services, and features to our extensive portfolio.” As to what that demand might entail, Mohammed is quite clear. “Last year witnessed a complete change in how people perceive their communication matrix,” he says. “It’s all data on-the-go and while one end of the spectrum is dominated by graphically rich apps and games, the other end is seeing wider professional and office applications on the move and also rich personal content through social media use.” Making technology accessible and impactful for customers is a core commitment for Zain, and we can expect them to continue to deliver on this during 2013, and beyond.
