A Bahraini parliamentarian, researcher and specialist in media and international relations, joins the Woman of the Year Awards 2026 judging panel with considerable experience and expertise. Dr. Maryam Al Dhaen What does it mean to you to serve as a jury member for the Woman of the Year Awards 2026? It is both an honour and a responsibility to serve as a jury member. I see it as an opportunity to recognise women whose achievements create a meaningful impact and to celebrate diverse forms of leadership, excellence and service. What are your thoughts on the awards and their role in recognising and celebrating women’s achievements in Bahrain? The awards provide an important platform to highlight the remarkable achievements of women across different sectors. Recognition inspires others, encourages ambition and demonstrates that women can lead, innovate and contribute at every level. Celebrating these achievements is also an important part of Bahrain’s continued progress and development. How has your career journey shaped the professional you are today? My journey in education and higher education leadership has taught me that leadership is fundamentally about people, purpose and impact. Over the years, I have learnt to embrace challenges, remain open to change and continually develop both myself and those around me. My experiences have strengthened my belief that education is one of the most powerful tools for transforming individuals and communities. What experience and expertise do you bring to the jury panel? I bring more than two decades of experience in education, training, higher education leadership, quality assurance and institutional development. What qualities, achievements and personal values will you look for when assessing this year’s nominees? I will look beyond titles and positions to focus on genuine impact, leadership, innovation, resilience and a commitment to making a positive difference. I value integrity, authenticity, courage and collaboration, as well as the ability to inspire and empower others. True achievement is not only about what we accomplish, but also the positive change we create. What message would you like to share with the women nominated for the Woman of the Year Awards 2026? Being nominated is, in itself, recognition of your journey and contribution. I encourage every nominee to continue believing in her potential, embracing challenges and using her voice to create positive change. Success is not only about reaching the highest position. It is also about lifting others as you rise and leaving a meaningful legacy. Is there anything else you would like to add? Empowering women extends beyond creating opportunities. It is about fostering an environment in which women can lead, innovate, influence decision-making and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of society. When women are empowered to realise their full potential, organisations and communities become stronger, more inclusive and more resilient.
