bahrainthismonth.com | OCTOBER 2026 BUSINESS 71 For most leadership teams, the honest answer is no. The playbook of the last 20 years, rank on page one and earn the click, still works. It just no longer tells the whole story, because a growing share of discovery now happens inside an answer rather than on a website. What the numbers actually say Google is not going anywhere. In Bahrain, Google held 97.33% of search engine market share in August 2026, with Bing a distant second at 2.05% (Source: StatCounter Global Stats). The AI picture is more fragmented. Among website referrals from AI chatbots in Bahrain that month, ChatGPT accounted for 80.73%, followed by Google Gemini at 13.66%, Claude at 3.41%, Microsoft Copilot at 1.22%, and Perplexity at 0.98% (Source: StatCounter Global Stats). Here is the telling part. When StatCounter compares the traffic Google and ChatGPT send to websites in Bahrain, Google accounts for 99.79% and ChatGPT just 0.21% (Source: StatCounter Global Stats, August 2026). That gap does not mean nobody uses ChatGPT. It means ChatGPT users rarely need to click. Your brand gets considered or ignored without a single visit being recorded. SEO still comes first Search engine optimisation improves a site so it ranks and earns the click. It runs on technical health, content depth and trusted links, and it remains the foundation the other two disciplines depend on. AEO is about being the answer Answer engine optimisation targets featured snippets, People Also Ask boxes and Google’s AI Overviews. These formats pull short, selfcontained passages, typically forty to sixty words, that resolve one clear question. If your content buries the answer in paragraph six, someone else’s page gets quoted. GEO is the new frontier Generative engine optimisation targets ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. These tools do not lift a snippet. They synthesise an answer from many sources and decide, often silently, whether a brand is worth mentioning. That depends on consistent, credible references across the wider web, not on any single page. You can now measure it Until recently, AI visits vanished into the Referral bucket in Google Analytics. On 13 May 2026, Google added an “AI Assistant” default channel for traffic from recognised AI chatbots such as SEO, AEO, GEO: Is Your Brand Being Found? Right now, a potential customer could be asking an AI assistant to recommend a business like yours. It would answer in seconds, name a handful of options, and the customer might never open a search results page. Is your brand on that list? And would you have any way of knowing? By SOS Marketing Digital POV is a regular feature contributed by SOS Marketing (sosmarketing.co), a Bahrain-based digital performance marketing agency Visit sosmarketing.co to book a call to discuss your audit or email [email protected] ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, removing the need for custom setups (Source: Search Engine Journal). There are two caveats. The channel is not retroactive, so earlier AI traffic stays in its old classification. And Google’s own AI Overviews and AI Mode are explicitly excluded (Source: Digital Applied, June 2026). Why all three matter The most common mistake we see is treating these as a choice. SEO still drives most website traffic. AEO wins the direct answer. GEO decides whether you are in the conversation at all. The businesses gaining ground run all three as one connected strategy. How SOSM can help At SOS Marketing, we help businesses fine-tune their websites so they rank well in search and get picked up as the answer, in Google and in AI assistants alike. The opening paragraph’s question deserves an answer, and we can help you find it.
