bahrainthismonth.com | OCTOBER 2026 HEALTH & WELLNESS 27 A Healthier Way Forward Health is often framed as a destination: a number on the scales, a fitness goal or a perfect routine we promise to begin next Monday. In reality, feeling better often starts with small choices that fit the lives we lead. This month, Bahrain This Month explores the ways we can care for ourselves, from moving more and eating well to protecting our peace of mind. For some, that first step might be a morning walk before the day gathers pace. For others, it could be returning to the swimming pool, cooking more often at home or booking a health check that has been put off. There is no single formula for wellbeing. What matters is finding habits we can repeat and recognising that progress can be gradual. A new season offers a useful moment to take stock. As Bahrain’s evenings begin to cool, spending time outdoors becomes more appealing. A walk with a friend, an active afternoon with the family or a few quiet minutes away from a screen can bring movement and connection into an ordinary day. Rest matters just as much. Better sleep, time to recover and permission to slow down are part of looking after ourselves, too. October also brings World Mental Health Day on October 10. This year’s campaign calls for the experiences of people living with mental health conditions to be heard and to help shape the support they receive. It is a reminder that wellbeing involves far more than what we can see. In Bahrain, as anywhere, a busy life can make it tempting to push stress, anxiety or exhaustion aside until they become difficult to ignore. Checking in with ourselves and the people around us can be a meaningful place to begin. There is strength in saying that something feels difficult. A conversation with someone we trust may help and, when we need more support, speaking to a qualified professional is a sensible step. We should be able to discuss mental health with the same care and openness we bring to physical health, without assuming that a cheerful appearance tells the whole story. In the following pages, we consider practical ways to build healthier routines, explore tools and trends that may help us understand our bodies and make space for mental health alongside fitness and nutrition. Some ideas may inspire a major change. Others might offer one manageable adjustment. Improving ourselves need not mean chasing an ideal version of ourselves. It can mean paying attention to what we need today, being patient when life interrupts our plans and making choices that help us enjoy it.
