Bahrain National Museum A play to celebrate Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary promises to be a fun event for the family. This is a one-act short play, performed in the round, that is a brilliant introduction to Shakespeare’s most famous excerpts or a timely reminder to those who already know their Shakespeare but who do not want to sit through a twohour classic. A couple of hundred years after Shakespeare wrote his last play, a group of bedraggled court players is threatened with certain death if they do not successfully entertain the King. Finding a book of excerpts from some unknown playwright called Shakespeare, they decide to give it a go with mixed results as they try out scenes from Romeo and Juliet, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet and Macbeth. It is performed by an international cast and production crew hailing from Bahrain, UK, New Zealand, India and America with ages ranging from 14 years to those well past retirement! Tickets cost BD7 and are available from the British Club and Alosra (Nakheel Centre). A percentage of profits from the show will be donated to local charities.
