November 2015 35 www.bahrainthismonth.com When? December 2-5 Event? Pantomime Venue? British Club Nothing makes Christmas more traditional than a good-old pantomime and the age-old audience participation “Boo, he’s behind you” and “Oh no it’s not”. Come and join in on the fun with the prince of thieves! The Manama Theatre Club (MTC) presents a British Club family Christmas pantomime, Robin Hood and His Merry Men, from December 2 to 5. This year, the MTC goes back to medieval times and to Nottingham Forest where Robin Hood and his Merry Men are attempting to redistribute Prince John’s wealth and thwart the pending marriage of Robin’s sweetheart, Marian, to the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. As Jim joins the Merry Men to look for her parents, she is helped along the way by Maid Marian’s rather extrovert nurse, a cow, and pursued by the evil sheriff and his bungling henchmen. The usual chaos ensues as men dressed as women and women dressed as men get dreadfully confused, accompanied by a host of peasant children and Merry Men, singing and dancing their way to what is hoped to be a happy ending. The panto by Robin Bailes and Jonathan Hales has a few topical updates and a host of lively songs that will soon get your feet tapping. Tickets are priced at BD5 for members and BD7 for non-members, and can be purchased from the British Club reception. Nightly shows will take place on December 2 to 4 at 7pm and matinees shows on December 4 and 5 at 3pm. Call 17 728-245. Entertainment+ brings yet another family theatrical Shakespeare 4 Kidz (S4K) production for all ages with The Jungle Book. The play follows much of the original tale by Rudyard Kipling and has been specially adapted for the stage by writer/director/producer Julian Chenery. The stories deal with a young boy’s adventures as he grows up in the jungle, with the timeless themes of family, friendship, loyalty, honour, courage, tradition, integrity, persistence and, above all, friendship, resonating throughout the tale. Kipling’s hugely likeable anthropomorphic animal characters, combined with the popularity of the Walt Disney films, have made The Jungle Book a timeless classic. Featuring seven actor-musicians, the cast includes Marcelo Cervone as Mowgli the Mancub, Alastair FarrallDaniel as Baloo the Bear and Thomas Hewitt as Bagheera the Panther. They are joined by Hugo Joss Catton, Susie Chaytow, Harry Hart and Clare Reilly who play the animal friends that Mowgli meets on his adventures. A total of 10 shows will be held on November 29 at 8.45am and 10.40am; November 30 and December 1 at 8.45am, 10.40am and 12.30pm and on December 2 at 10am and 4.30pm. Each performance lasts 60 minutes. Regular tickets cost BD15. A special family offer of four tickets for BD50 is available while seats last. Tickets can be purchased from Al Osra supermarkets or Havajava Café inside Manazel. Call 39 616-858 for more information and large bookings. When? November 29 – December 2 Theatre Production Venue?
