114 November 2013 www.bahrainthismonth.com motoring The previous generation Outlander was one of Mitsubishi Motor Corporation’s (MMC’s) more popular models, selling around 660,000 units during its lifetime. Compact, versatile, practical and comfortable, it had all the winning qualities of a successful crossover utility vehicle. However, as this segment becomes more and more competitive, Mitsubishi felt it was time for an overhaul, and has introduced a new and improved Outlander. This model incorporates new technologies as well as higher levels of efficiency and comfort. The new Outlander represents the fusion of every facet of MMC’s car-building technology and know-how. The focus was on achieving a significantly refined look and feel that oozes quality in its exterior appearance, interior, and driving performance along with world-class safety features such as e-Assist. With the 2.4-litre 4WD model approximately 22 per cent more fuel-efficient than its predecessor, the new Outlander offers a significant improvement in fuel efficiency while retaining its predecessor’s outstanding driving performance. The electronically controlled 4WD system allows the driver to operate the sports utility vehicle (SUV) with reassurance and comfort under almost any road surface condition. There are three operating modes: 4WD ECO, 4WD AUTO and 4WD LOCK. Replacing the 2WD mode on the previous Outlander, the 4WD ECO mode automatically switches between 2WD and 4WD drive to match the road surface and driving conditions. The interior design creates a sophisticated and comfortable space using a dashboard with as few dividing lines as possible, and with an ergonomically functional switch and control layout. For greater safety, all models come standard with seven SRS airbags and with active stability control, which stabilises the movement of the SUV when it senses the vehicle is starting to skid. This delivers a superior on-road safety performance and an excellent environment rating with its high-performance 4WD drive train. Mitsubishi’s aim with the 2014 Outlander was to redefine this entry-level SUV as an ultimate crossover SUV. On paper, it looks like that is exactly what they’ve done. The new Outlander 2014 raises the bar for Mitsubishi’s popular midsize SUV in practically every way. Not So Outlandish! ZAYANI MOTORS
