On stage, the Haïdouti cultivates the art of the meeting of cultures and sounds. Time-honoured Korean performances reflect highly important colour traditions to the customary Korean dresses, called the Hanbok, whose elegant lines and flexibility are highlighted through these traditional performances, as well as the significant influence of Confucianism such as hiding women’s skin and delicate motions. This exhibition is an opportunity to understand the variety and beauty of the Hanbok. Iraqi singer and composer Majid Al Muhandis, whose success in the Arab world has earned him the titles of “the Engineer of the Arabic song” and “Voice of Diamond” joins forces with Egyptian singer, actress, TV host and personality and former judge on MBC’s The Voice Ahla Sawt, Sherine Abdel-Wahab, to ignite Bahrain Bay with a repertoire from their past and latest albums. Resmi Al Kafaji describes Pathways as a word and an artistic concept. He explains that one often embarks on a journey not knowing where the final destination might be, much like how he begins his paintings. The monochromatic watercolour and mixed media pieces that make up Pathways reveal Al Kafaji’s gentle curiosity. In his artist statement, he describes how he often has no preconceived idea of how a completed work will look when he begins to paint. In an act of trusting surrender, he allows his brush to become ‘…a walking stick that leads him to where he was meant to arrive’. Al Kafaji’s works are in the collections of various museums in Italy, Jordan, Iraq and in private collections in Europe and the Middle East.
