marketplace Time for Discovery ASIA JEWELLERS Determination and relentless hard work often result in something extraordinary and this stunning creation is a prime example. Once again, Zenith pays tribute to the famous navigator Christopher Columbus by introducing an enigmatic creation in a limited-edition series — Academy Christophe Colomb Hurricane Grand Voyage II. This piece is a combination of technical and artistic achievement that demonstrates watchmaking is not just about mechanisms and precision. Watch connoisseurs will be enamoured with a remarkable painting that adorns the back of the dial. There are new details on a 45 millimetre rose gold case and beneath the domed sapphire crystal. These include handmade gold elements screwed to the movement. This is a result of micro-engraving, enamelling and miniature painting. This ambitious design was a big challenge for artisans and engineers, who had to completely revise the movement in order to accommodate the artwork. The result clearly demonstrates Zenith’s creativity and ability to combine its prodigious mechanisms and art. This movement comprises of 939 parts, including 354 for the calibre itself, which houses the 173 parts of the Gravity Control module. The fusée-chain system comprises 585 parts. The dial has an open structure that allows you to see three mechanisms in action simultaneously. A three-dimensional canvas provides a sophisticated aesthetic and the three small gold subdials feature intricate guilloche, which is painted white and fitted with blued steel hands and screws. The main plate is hollowed out to reveal the Zenith logo in relief and a parade of stars. The hollowed parts have been filled with midnight blue lacquer. The counterweight of the gravity control system is adorned by a micro-painting of the Southern Hemisphere. Entirely hand-finished, this ornamentation on the Academy Christophe Colomb Hurricane Grand Voyage II makes each timepiece unique. Christopher Columbus and founder of Zenith, Georges Favre-Jacot, have a lot in common — a pioneering spirit, a curious nature and a love of challenges.
