Seeing in the Future At the Mobile World Congress held last month in Barcelona, Blippar introduced image recognition and augmented reality advertising on Google Glass. The company’s chief executive officer, Ambarish Mitra, showed how Blippar, on Google Glass, can quickly recognise images, products and even faces of people. Blippar aims to expand the reach of this technology, which goes well beyond scanning a simple QR code, to actually recognising and processing unique images, and then delivering information based on those images. “Glass today can be likened to what mobile phones were in the early nineties,” commented Ambarish. “At Blippar we anticipate that, if Glass reaches a couple of million users in its first year of launch, it will be a good business opportunity for us to develop in the space.
