June 2014 117 www.bahrainthismonth.com Bahrain might be a small island, but it is festooned with dining outlets. Every month, the Kingdom sees new venues open their doors. As a nation, our love for food is no secret. In fact, Bahrain is known to celebrate all kinds of cuisines with frequently held food festivals, weekend farmers’ markets, cooking classes and exciting weekly promotions. Whether it has to do with a fine-dining venue at a five-star property or a standalone burger venue, the Kingdom has a lot to offer its people, catering to diverse tastes and cultures. The Bahrain Hotel & Restaurant Guide 2014 gives you a detailed view of the dining scene on the island, including venues at new malls and serviced apartments. Two new retail destinations that double as diners’ paradise are Enma Mall and The Walk, both in Riffa. Enma Mall is home to new branches of Derby Café, The Coffee Bean Leaf & Tea and Le Chocolat. It also boasts Yum Yum Tree outlets like Subway and Vanelli’s, Jasmi’s, Tony Roma’s, Pappa Roti and Zeitouna. The Walk, known for Kim Kardashian’s visit, recently opened a new burger hotspot called The Big Smoke Burger. The Canadian brand instantly gained popularity owing to its gourmet patties. Joining the hamburger wagon is Bluefield Burger at Al Raya Mall in Juffair. The neighbourhood shopping destination, first known for Alosra, is home to two coffee shops, Starbucks and Esquire’s. Not far from this venue is American Alley, which is a popular food district in Bahrain. At the end of this strip, you’ll find new venues like Kabuki Japanese Restaurant and Dine ‘O’ In 24-hour dining. At the entrance, you’ll find a brand-new retail destination playing host to a branch of Johnny Rockets. You can also spot Pasta Express and Mooyah along this alley. The Lagoon at Amwaj Islands is constantly evolving. Recent additions to its repertoire of dining options are My Kitchen, recommended by most food critics on the island for breakfast, and Tche Tche Café. The Avenue in Saar has seen new venues pop up next to Villa Mama’s. Read on to learn about the new menu at Eatery, an Indo-Italian fine-dining restaurant. L’Avenue offers a cosy setting with a fountain and garden area that make you feel at home. A pleasant surprise for Bahrain’s gourmands is the return of Oliveto and La Ventana, both in Adliya. People can look forward to discovering new venues in the busiest food district as the 338 district will see a number of restaurants spring up this year. Some of the eateries that have already opened include Akiko and Houseboat. On the other side of the country, Lanterns Restaurant & Lounge unveils another branch at Durrat Al Bahrain. Sheza Tower Hotel in the Diplomatic Area is now home to Fuji Teppanyaki, completing their Japanese food offerings. The dining options at Reef Island often go unnoticed.
