www.bahrainthismonth.com June 2013 91 movies Mud An awesome take on a Mark Twain classic — Mud is bold, intelligent and thoroughly entertaining, with some interesting supernatural undertones. McConaughey gives a captivating and enjoyable performance. One of the more interesting films of the month! Perhaps its better off leaving this for home. Iron Man 3 Big on action and a very smart and fast-paced superhero movie, this is Downey Jr at his best! Kingsley is also fantastic as the Mandarin, proving that superhero villains these days can be more interesting and three-dimensional. I would watch this many more times; I can’t get tired of it. MOVIE OF THE MONTH Star Trek: Into Darkness RATING: DIRECTED BY: J. J. Abrams STARRING: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch THE PLOT: After Starfleet is attacked and his good friend is killed by cold-hearted criminal John Harrison (Cumberbatch), Captain James Kirk (Pine) assembles the Enterprise crew and leads a federation manhunt to apprehend the terrorist, and avenge the fallen. But this renegade could prove to be the crew’s most dangerous threat yet. WORTH WATCHING? Abrams has done a fantastic job revitalising a much-loved franchise for a modern audience. The opening act of the movie is enormously thrilling, as we see the Enterprise crew trying to save a primitive race of creatures from being destroyed by a volcano. His choice of casting is spot on; Quinto as Spock is fantastic. VERDICT: A fantastic sequel and excellent addition to the new, 21st century Star Trek roster, Abrams is taking the franchise where no one has.
