From games to social networking, this month’s hottest apps have it all! House of the Dead Overkill RATING: WHAT IS IT? The arcade game has now moved onto the smartphone in this awesome rendering of the awesome zombie shoot-em-up! The app is very reminiscent of its coinconsuming predecessor, with guns, gore and good times! THE GOOD: This will definitely appeal to fans of the arcade version - each section has the classic arcade-style layout to it, and controls are very easy to pick up. There are two different modes you can choose from within the game — story and survival. Survival mode is very similar to the Call of Duty Zombies mode; a seemingly never-ending swarm of the undead head keeping coming. You have to try and hold out for as long as possible. In terms of graphics, House of the Dead is impressive, yet not up to the standard of a lot of the new apps available, but where it may lack in exemplary graphics, it makes up for it in playability and gameplay in general. THE BAD: The game is not without fault. Sadly there are the cursed in-game purchases, which can be off-putting to those who like to keep their gaming experience on the cheap. Aside from these small grievances, the game is still an enjoyable and fun experience, and definitely a worthwhile addition to any smartphone’s app library - it’s not the cheapest of the gaming apps, but it’s definitely worth US$4.50. VERDICT: An awesome rendition of an arcade favourite — fun, fast-paced and exciting!
