First established over 35 years ago to cater to the French speaking population in Bahrain, Lycée Français de Bahreïn is now open to students of all nationalities. Offering an enriching and all-round learning experience, the school prepares its students for the French Baccalaureate, a diploma recognised worldwide for its excellence. The school is part of a global network of 488 institutes, spread across 130 countries, providing quality education to over 320,000 students. Only 40 per cent of the students are French; 10 per cent are from the Gulf region and the rest come from expatriate communities like Lebanon, Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco. The offered curriculum and exams conducted come under the Ministry of Education, France. Nonfrancophone pupils are given an opportunity to learn French with specialised teachers. “Our aim is not just to educate students, but build members of a diverse society for tomorrow where there is tolerance and appreciation for other cultures,” says Antoine Sagodira, gestionnaire, Lycée Français de Bahreïn. “Our objective is for students to be able to speak at least three languages once they reach the last year of the secondary education.” As part of their teaching philosophy, the students are taught about their culture and are encouraged to connect with the environment through field trips to museums, exhibitions and cultural and historic sites. Initially based in Manama, the school is now located in Busaiteen, close to the Institute of Technology. Call 17 323-770. All-Round Learning LYCÉE FRANÇAIS
