Bahrain This Month - July 2014

114 July 2014 www.bahrainthismonth.com apps Out and About APPS OF THE MONTH Cloak If you’re trying to avoid bumping into someone or don’t have the time to stop and chat, Cloak could well be the app for you. It uses Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare and Instagram to pinpoint your contacts. You can tweak your route to suit your needs. Google Maps Google’s free satellite navigation app makes you wonder what the point is in buying a separate device. It can get confused with small or new roads. For the most part, it gets you where you want to go. Around Me What Is It? Around Me is an app that shows you almost everything there is close to your location. The sites of banks, petrol stations, supermarkets and much more are a click away with this brilliant tool. There are 17 different options to search for, including a list of favourites. The Good One of the best things about Around Me is that it’s not limited to a specific country, like so many other apps. You can use it anywhere. It has a variety of languages to choose from and is extremely easy to use. Gone are the days of not being able to find a petrol station or cash machine. Around Me will point you in the right direction for almost anything you need to find. What makes it better is if you have Google Maps installed, it will load the directions and guide you by satellite navigation. The Bad If I must be pedantic, the adverts are annoying. Even that has a solution. Upgrade to the paid version; otherwise, accept the adverts as a necessary evil to keep it funded. There really is very little wrong with this app. VERDICT: Anyone with a smartphone who goes anywhere unfamiliar will wonder how you could have ever lived without it. With summer at its peak, almost everybody has planned a holiday to escape the Middle Eastern heat. This month’s selection of apps is great for those who are on the move.
