Bahrain This Month - January 2014

www.bahrainthismonth.com January 2014 121 MAKI RESTAURANT A Taste of Perfection Over the last year, Maki Bahrain at the World Trade Centre delighted us with a monthly event that not only showcased their culinary creations, but also pleasantly surprised our palates. Maki’s chefs always look forward to the night when they present guests with 15 samplings of their staple dishes and newest inventions. “This is the night when you get to sample small portions of our most delicious, favourite and classic Japanese fusion dishes along with new concepts, all complemented with the right beverages. It is a night when we get to showcase what Maki is all about,” says Steve Fernandes, general manager of the restaurant. Showcasing Maki, the event educates guests about the menu, especially those frequenting the restaurant and holding functions and parties. Some of the newest dishes on offer represent food and art. The red tartufo quinoa salad is made from highly nutritious, gluten-free red quinoa seeds, cilantro, truffles and pine nuts. Introducing red quinoa for the very first time to Bahrain, this is a tasty and wholesome salad. All you have to do is squeeze some lime on top of it, mix and enjoy! The great news for 2014 is that the popularity of the ‘15 Magical Moments of fusion cuisine’ has led it to be held every Tuesday, thus giving food lovers the chance to savour this ‘festival of flavours’ four times a month. You now have more reasons to enjoy the perfection offered at Maki. E Call 17 522-733. The theme night at this Japanese restaurant has proven to be so popular that it has become a regular event for the Kingdom’s gourmands. VAPIANO The Best of Freshness Located on the first level of Bahrain City Centre, Vapiano offers a dynamic gastronomic experience. Diners can enjoy a modern interactive guest service within an urban upscale ambience. Every dish is prepared in front of guests with fresh ingredients and authentic Italian recipes. A success since its inception in 2002, Vapiano joins with German culinary sensation Cornelia Poletto to treat us all this month. A famed German restaurateur, television personality and author, she is a renowned chef who successfully apprenticed for German gourmet chef Heinz Winkler. In the following years she worked for and with Anna Sgroi, a student of Gualtiero Marchesi, who is considered to be the founder of modern Italian cuisine. From 2000 to 2010 Cornelia ran her own Michelin-star restaurant in Hamburg called Poletto. Today, retired from her own restaurants, she can often be seen on German television. However, this month her cooking and expertise will be showcased in Vapiano’s new ‘Specials inspired by Cornelia Poletto’ menu. Enjoy new dishes like Insalata Scarola E Salmone or Spaghetti Gorgonzola E Pistaccio. You can savour pizza made with ovenroasted tomatoes, soft goat cheese, aromatic garlic paste and mozzarella, refined with fresh herbs. Vapiano proves consistently that it is not ‘fast food’ but ‘great food served fast’. With the introduction of Poletto’s menu, this restaurant can claim to have Michelin-star dining as well.
