World Beat Fitness Center and Café Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls around the world. This month, in conjunction with its 15th anniversary, the initiative’s ‘One Billion Rising’ campaign is coming to town for a dance extravaganza. “In collaboration with many international groups, we will be creating a dancing revolution in an effort to realise the collective strength and solidarity across borders to end violence against women and girls,” says World Beat Fitness Center’s director and founder, Jane Goodwin. During the event, participants will learn the popular Break the Chains dance routine, which will be broken down into easy-to-learn steps. A bit of belly dancing, as well as some easy Nia technique and Yoga will also be on the day’s agenda. The V-Day movement now extends to almost 170 counties and the ‘One Billion Rising’ is its most ambitious campaign to date. “At BD8 for members and BD10 for non-members, you can help raise awareness for anti-violence groups around the world.” continues Jane. Proceeds will go to local charity for abused women. The centre hosts three different martial arts programs for children and adults, five different yoga classes as well as zumba, pilates and belly dancing. It is also the only location in Bahrain to offer the Nia Technique, a low impact holistic fitness program for all shapes and sizes taught around the world.
