The prospect of going for higher studies in a foreign land is often daunting; especially for the students moving away from Bahrain’s close knit community. These youngsters though now have an opportunity to experience firsthand how university life in the UK will be like. The British School of Bahrain (BSB) is offering an all new and first-of-its-kind University Foundation Programme (UFP), in Bahrain. It is designed to ease students who have completed their High School Diploma (Tawjihiya) into undergraduate degree programmes at English universities. “Students can advance to their chosen degrees via one of six academic pathways, all of which are specifically designed to prepare them for their future course. Business, economics and finance, engineering and technology and science and pharmacy are all offered,” says Khalil Ahmed, head of the UFP and teacher at the British School of Bahrain (BSB). The programme course is for one academic year spread over three terms. “The syllabus is structured in such a way that it allows the graduates to experience firsthand how university life in the UK will be like. Students are also guaranteed a place at nearly every undergraduate UK degree course,” adds Khalil. The initiative is in partnership with the University Foundation Programme in the UK and partnering schools range from Brunel to Southhampton universities. The London School of Pharmacy and the University of Leeds are also among the many other partners. The courses start in September 2013, with the English preparation course beginning in April 2013. The UFP is designed for students aged between 16 to 19 years. E Call 17 610-820. A strong foundation ensures a robust structure. To aim higher one must ensure that the groundwork is built deep. The Touch Monitor, with its diagonal screen size of 176.6cm and full HD resolution, makes it simple to exchange information between several people. The quality display precisely renders every detail and its detection software allows for any changes and comments to be immediately integrated in existing drafts. It can then, optionally, be saved or printed out. “The size of the monitor plus a sensitive interactive feature makes this unit ideal for teaching in schools and universities, giving presentations in the boardroom and conference centres and even for digital signage,” adds Gautam. “In developing the PN-L702B, particular emphasis was placed on ease of use. Sharp’s pen software was specially created for interactive monitors, making it extremely simple to manipulate.” The presented pictures can be enlarged or rotated, and handwritten notes can be selected and moved around the screen. After making these adjustments, the final screen display can be saved and printed. What’s more is that the new screen can easily be connected to Sharp MFPs, printers, scanners or to an organisation’s network. Even displaying scanned images and then saving and printing them complete with handwritten comments is now within easy reach. E Call 17 227-770.
