Following on from its success last year as the Arab Capital of Culture, Manama is gearing up to celebrate being nominated as the Arab Capital of Tourism in 2013. The Ministry of Culture has been busy constructing a schedule of events that focuses on culture during the first quarter of the year. So, expect to be enthralled by a collection of Japanese dolls towards the end of the month at the National Museum. February is also World Cancer Day; the BFH Art Gallery presents the works of the much-acclaimed Iraqi artist, Rafa Nasiri, to raise funds for the Bahrain Cancer Society. Amwaj Islands is a destination of note this month as the marina is the kickoff point for the annual Sail Arabia tour. There’s also the monthly market, on February 23, to test our bargaining skills and to sample one of the many new dining venues at The Lagoon Park. For those looking for a surreal experience, then head down to Seef Mall and encounter a dinosaur, take a moonwalk or a stroll in the rain. This augmented reality experience comes courtesy of National Geographic. Our round-up of Valentine’s Day dining and entertainment options will not leave you short on choice about where to spend the evening with a loved one.
