MOVIE TIME FRIDAYS FILM RAINBOW JELLY Nakhool Tent Cinema Hall, Arad Fort Director Soukarya Ghoshal’s Bengali film, Rainbow Jelly, entwines sweetness, tanginess and spice to take your emotions on a wild rollercoaster ride. India’s first food-fantasy film Rainbow Jelly tells the story of Ghoton who, being an autistic orphan boy, is deprived of the love and affection shown to other kids of his age. Continuously tortured by his maternal uncle and mocked as ‘awpoyar chhele’ (son of unlucky woman) by his neighbours, Ghoton earnestly desires to escape from harsh reality and dreams that one day his world would be perfect with joy and happiness. His life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Poripisi, a mysterious lady who makes a magical dish, ‘Rainbow Jelly,’ which illuminates all the seven colours of the world. 7pm. Free. COME NOSE AROUND AUGUST 4 PINOCCHIO Events Tent, Arad Fort An adaptation by Missoula Theatre, from the USA, of one of the most beloved children’s stories of all time, the story picks up after Pinocchio was given the gift of life and follows him on a magical adventure where he learns that there are no shortcuts on the road to becoming a real, live boy. THAT’S AZAL FOLKS AUGUST 11 AND 17 YEMENI FOLKLORE SHOW Events Tent, Arad Fort Bahrain-based Azal Troupe from Yemen performs traditional song and dance vignettes that draw from the proud ancient heritage of Yemen’s various regions, as well as a comedic sketch-style play that highlights the importance of education in the region. The show is directed by the country’s cultural attaché, Adam Saif, assisted by Issa Al-Humaidi. Suitable for five years and above. 8.15pm. Free. Arabic. STRINGS ATTACHED AUGUST 1, 7, 8, 14 AND 15 PUPPET SHOW Events Tent, Arad Fort Puppet theatre specialist Ramadan Yousif presents a series of educational and entertaining puppet shows inspired by local heritage, animal stories, great adventures, folk tales and traditional games. FOLKLORE ON THE MIND AUGUST 1 AND 3 SUDANESE FOLKLORE Events Tent, Arad Fort In collaboration with the Sudanese Embassy in Bahrain, Al-Nawares (Seagulls) Cultural Troupe performs a number of dance and song vignettes that highlight the rich diversity of Sudanese heritage. MOROCCAN THEATRE AUGUST 10 BOULAAYALAT Cultural Hall A comedic play that follows the story of Abdeljabbar, a rich merchant who gets himself into a series of humorous sticky situations after he takes on a second wife to bear him the child he so desires to be the inheritor of his vast fortune.
