April 2016 29 www.bahrainthismonth.com Porsche GT3 Cup Champion Jeffrey Schmidt is set to lead a 16-car field in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East support round, to be held as part of the weekend’s racing. The Porsche GT3 Cup will feature racing on all three days of the Formula 1 weekend. Others set to compete in his category are his Al Nabood Racing teammate and former champion Zaid Ashkanani of Kuwait, who was also Schmidt’s chief title rival last season. Norwegian Dennis Olsen (DHL Bahrain), German Christopher Zochling (Classic Arabia), Dutchman Charlie Frijns (Frijns Structural Steel ME) and Irishman Ryan Cullen (Cullen Motorsport) are also in the fray. Four Silver Class drivers will also be looking to mix things up. They include Team Bahrain’s rising talent His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Prince Saud Al Faisal (Al Faisal Racing) and Faisal Bin Laden (Saudi Falcons) of Saudi Arabia, and Wolfgang Triller (TriSpa Racing) of Germany. The field is rounded out by another four drivers in the Bronze category. They include Team Bahrain ace Shaikh Jaber bin Ali Al Khalifa, Dutchman Rob Frijns (Frijns Structural Steel ME), Swede Magnus Ohman (Mtech) and Turk Cengiz Oguzhan (ATA Freight Line). Also, two unnamed drivers will be competing in the event. They will be flying the flag of Lechner Racing Middle East. The upcoming Porsche GT3 Cup support event is set to feature two races of 10 laps each around BIC’s 5.412-kilometre Grand Prix track. Kids’ entertainment A special section for kids has been allocated at the Formula 1 Village vending area throughout the three-day Grand Prix spectacle. Events and workshops will include: interaction with a world-renowned bubble artist and roaming performers; memorable activities with a giant puppeteer and a challenging maze; and a pair of drumming monkeys. The workshops cover four areas. There is a balloon workshop where kids will learn how to twist and turn three-foot balloons to make replicas of insects, animals and everything in between. There is also a bubbles workshop, where they will be hands-on in preparing and creating different sizes of bubbles with help from a professional bubble master from the US. At the circus workshop, all kinds of skills can be learned such as spinning plates, juggling, balancing and uni-cycling; while, at a magic workshop, kids can pick up fantastic tricks from Maestro Gary and Maestro Ricky. Meanwhile, Aramis Gehberger, more popularly known as Dr Bubbles, is set to be at the F1 Village. He is a bubble artists who has performed all over the world. The Treemendous Treants with their towering, detailed costumes, are perfect for photo opportunities. Fully mobile and armed with an arsenal of tree related-humour, the Treants are guaranteed to be a hit. If you’re looking for an extra dose of excitement, check out the Titeretú giant puppeteer and challenging maze known as Laberint II. Made of iron and wood, Titeretú has its basic mechanical parts in plain view. As an audience member you are no longer just a spectator, you become the main character of the story – the puppet. Laberint II is a sea of coloured walls full of crossroads, which will test the most intrepid participants with its visual enigmas. The Amazing Drumming Monkeys Show features two adorable monkey puppets, Bongo and Congo, playing African drums and leading audiences in song and dance, while performing tricks with special effects. The show also features beautiful positive messages, such as caring for our environment and getting along with each other. Theatre shows A pair of theatre shows has been lined up as part of the Grand Prix weekend’s colourful offtrack entertainment. SIRO-A, from Japan, and Ticket to Bollywood, from India, are internationally renowned productions that will be held at the specially erected tent in BIC’s F1 Village vending area. There will be three performances a day for each production. Entry will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The BIC advises those interested in watching any of the performances to pay close attention to the timings so as not to miss out. SIRO-A fuses mime, visual effects and an electro soundtrack to create a theatrical experience that is a feast for the senses. Through dance, mime and puppetry, the company of six SIRO performers interact with technology in a way never seen before. Featuring spectacular video projection, light animation, stunning laser effects and a pulsating electro beat, SIRO-A is a show like no other. Meanwhile, Ticket to Bollywood is a highoctane production from Mumbai. With fantastic costumes and joyful music, the show is an homage to one of the world’s greatest film industries – Bollywood. It brings to life the glitz and glamour of Bollywood song and dance. Packed with a whirlwind of colour, emotion and energetic choreography, Ticket to Bollywood has been created to represent the best of India.
