With a reputation for culinary innovation across the region, Maki really pushes the envelope when it comes to developing fresh food concepts. The restaurant is known for fusing global influences with Japanese basics, resulting in a truly unique offering. The venue recently hosted the ‘Women of Taste’ luncheon for a select group of ladies. Members of the American Women’s Association gather periodically and attend events at various high-quality restaurants in order to learn interesting facts about their food and pick up special techniques from the chefs. At Maki they met with head chef, Manju, and the restaurant’s co-founder and managing partner, Amer Zeitoun. The group discussed Maki’s healthy cuisine and ingredients and was even invited for some hands-on experience in the kitchen. The star of the afternoon, however, was Maki’s latest healthy introduction: the Akagome (red rice) menu. This menu complements the already extensive list of healthy options such as brown rice, gluten-free dishes and dishes based on house-grown, extra-virgin olive oil. From Akagome prawn teppanyaki, to the Mowaffak maki roll, the ladies enjoyed all of these signature dishes while also learning about the nutritious values of red rice.
