It presents the history of the universe, Earth and humanity in a comprehensible scale via a series of illustrated essays. It doesn’t go too in-depth and paints history in broad strokes, but that’s understandable when it encompasses so much. Delving into this app is a good way to appreciate not just human history, but also the development of life on Earth, the formation of our planet, the solar system, galaxy and the interconnectedness of events. What is it? Do you have a family member who always refuses to smile in photographs? This app allows you to change faces with just a few taps. Choose any picture from your camera roll and tap the ‘face’ button. The app places dots over the subject’s eyes, cheeks, lips and chin automatically. You can then tap on any of these points to edit them. The Good: It automatically detects facial features so you don’t have to zoom in to microscopic levels to align things. It also packs a ton of extra features, such as cropping, lighting and colour saturation. The Bad: It requires an Adobe account to use, which is quite fiddly to set up on your mobile and tablet. Some of the effects, particularly lighting and colour, have very limited intensity and often make little difference. Verdict: A great way to ensure you get the picture you want! Sound Uncovered explores not only the world of sound, but how we interpret what we hear. This free app comprises a series of 15 exercises and articles, with audio and other multimedia content. A mixture of both educational experiments and fun games, it’s a good choice for anyone interested in sound, hearing and audio phenomena.
