Bahrain This Month - November 2015

November 2015 45 www.bahrainthismonth.com The eagerly anticipated event, which sees teams ‘battle’ for glory, aims to put the Kingdom under the global spotlight and showcase the island as a top sporting destination. Event organiser and founder of Big Up Sports, Shehab Saeed, says the stage is set for the competition, which is being held under the patronage of Bahrain Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Federation president Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa. “We are absolutely thrilled to have Shaikh Abdulla as our patron,” says Shehab. “Hopefully, this competition will be the start of an even bigger and better event next year.” The two-day event takes place on November 26 and 27 at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain Hotel & Spa. Teams from the UK, US, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Spain, Brunei, UAE and Bahrain have been training hard for an event which will see each athlete have their moment to shine in front of hundreds of spectators. Shehab says: “There are going to be 40 athletes here for the event and there are some big names, including @tatted_strength, @ sensei_barsparta and @sexyboy5304. “The first day is the group stage, which will see four teams battle it out for their place in the semi-final. Day two is the final where one team will be crowned world champions.” Each battle is five minutes with individuals each taking a minute to show their stuff before the teams compete directly against each other. In between the battles, there will be live entertainment and snacks for spectators. The event sponsors are Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland — Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain), The Ritz-Carlton Bahrain and Gulf Daily News (GDNonline). However, Shehab says there are still sponsorship slots available. “To help ensure the success of this event, which will put Bahrain on the alternative sporting world map, sponsors are always appreciated. It’s great exposure for any company wanting to align itself with sport, youth and fitness.” In the lead-up to the CWC,a series of workshops will be held at RCSI Bahrain for fans who want to get some insider tips and tricks from the competitors themselves. The contest will be streamed live on the Calisthenics World Cup YouTube channel and on BTV. The event will feature big money prizes with USD10,000, USD6,000 and USD4,000 for first, second and third place respectively.
