The British School of Bahrain (BSB) Jazz fans are in for a treat as the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the Kingdom of Bahrain presents an Indonesian Jazz and Cultural Night on November 19 at the Cultural Hall. The event will feature Ade Irawan, a young pianist from Indonesia, currently living and studying in Los Angeles. Ade has appeared numerous times as a solo pianist at recitals and has performed at many prestigious festivals throughout the country, including the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Ade’s unusual solo piano recital at the Sydney Opera House in Australia in 2011 received high acclaim from both jazz musicians and critics. He has been billed as ‘unique’ – one of only a few disabled musicians who have performed at the Sydney Opera House. When? November 19 Event? Fashion Show Venue? The British Club LOCAL SCHOOL WELCOMES YOU! A JAZZ-Y AFFAIR Don’t miss a great opportunity to tour one of the local schools as the BSB holds an open evening on November 18, at its campus in Hamala, from 4pm to 6pm. Visitors are welcome to come and see the school in action for all year groups and sixth form. To give new parents an idea about the whole routine, there will be a small presentation about the school, with a tour to see study in action — students in classrooms, PE lessons, science, art, business, Arabic classes and more. The BSB is an outstanding QQA (National Authority for Qualifications and Quality Assurance of Education and Training) school, catering for three- to 18-year-olds on a state-of-the-art campus. Claiming to live and breathe excellence, responsibility and individuality, the school aims to help children meet their aspirations. The BSB has achieved some of the best Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) and A’ level results in Bahrain. The event is open to the public and free for everyone. Call 17 610-920 or email [email protected]. Enjoy a casual fun evening and donate to charity at the same time as The Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) hosts a fashion show along with a sitdown dinner. The event aims to be an action-packed evening, full of fabulous fun and frolics. The fashion show will have entertainment involving the models (all volunteers with no experience), with some children acting as prop holders, along with two ballerinas. It promises to be a fun event, rather than a straight forward fashion show, lasting an hour with a 15 minute interval half way, which will then be followed by a raffle and auction. The event will take place at The British Club’s Windsor Room, at 7pm. Entry is by ticket only, available from the Thrift Shop and The British Club. Tickets cost BD15 per person, inclusive of entertainment with dinner, refreshments and raffle. All proceeds go towards running the Animal Welfare Centre (AWC). Call 33 121-769. When?
