VIVA Bahrain’s corporate social responsibility arm, VIVA Jusoor, continues to employ community development initiatives, which make up its core. It constantly engages in the socially impactful programmes that have assisted the company in creating a lasting bond with the wider community across the Kingdom. Recently, VIVA rolled out its Back to School initiative, which involved providing new backpacks for children. The school bags were distributed to 1,000 youngsters across Bahrain through charitable organisations and schools, enabling VIVA to assist in the academic development of underprivileged youth, equipping them for a better future. The company also distributed Eidiya (cash gifts to children) and school bags to more kids through its collaboration with the Royal Charity Organisation. To raise health awareness and honour cancer survivors, VIVA supported Bahrain’s Think Pink initiative by sponsoring its 2016 desktop calendar and hosting an awareness session at VIVA’s headquarters led by Julie Sprakel, founder of Think Pink, and Bahrain Cancer Society. VIVA also engaged in another health initiative which saw staff participating in a blood donation campaign organised jointly with Salmaniya Hospital. The event attracted huge participation from VIVA employees and collected several units of blood in one day. The company has also extended support to the Good Word Society through its platinum sponsorship of the organisation’s Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa Award for Charity & Volunteer Work, awarded to companies which contribute to the enhancement of Bahrain’s social welfare. The telecom operator’s ongoing CSR initiatives and participation can be attributed to the trust and support of the local community, which is in line with its mission to “make a positive difference in the local community” by promoting a knowledge-based society.
