The island’s artistic community comes together as Market 338 prepares to take over Adliya. In its third edition the creative kaleidoscope takes you back in history from November 28 to December 14, to the mid-20th century Arabian Gulf. The exhibition is a tribute to the time when the pearl divers, fishermen and local craftsmen were welcoming bankers, businessmen and fast-moving consumer products from other parts of the world. Al Riwaq Gallery, with a number of local artists, will create an interactive arena that depicts the prevalent trends and practices of the bygone era. The exhibition innovatively explores the rich and artesian legacy of that pivotal time in the region’s history, when foreign influences were impacting the Bahrain’s culture. Art installations, textile designs, literature and music will all be used to recreate the charm of 50s Bahrain. Market 338 is a strategic platform for the promotion and dissemination of design culture in the area and features a line-up of local and regional designers. More than just an open-air gallery, it is a cultural centre offering live music performances, designer talks, and workshops.
