104 November 2013 www.bahrainthismonth.com downtimecomputergames How to Survive (WiiU, PS3, Xbox 360) RATING: WHAT IS IT? Eko Software and publisher 505 Games have thrown their entry into the fleshy ring of zombies with How to Survive. The title borrows elements from a number of other undead-focused adventures. You’ll find bloated zombies, weapon crafting and an isometric perspective. This zombie survival game features RPG stat mechanics and multiple playable characters along with local and online multiplayer options. GRAPHICS: The technical aspects do not shine in terms of detail and finesse, which is a shame since the plot can be forgotten in less than a minute. After a while, you begin to experience repetitiveness. Considering the attractive price and the originality of a hybrid gameplay (although imperfect), How to Survive is just enough to kill time. However, better graphics could have been utilised. GAMEPLAY: How to Survive has some undoubted merits. However, the game is very immature from certain points of view, like the variety of enemies and locations, the limited size of the islands, the graphics and the triviality of quests and dialogue. The game offers a story mode and a series of challenges that are disconnected from the main plot. The choice of the alter ego between the three available characters takes account of rather trivial characteristics. A change between one and the other are strength and speed. The Wolf Among Us (PS3, Xbox 360) From the makers of the 2012 Game of the Year, The Walking Dead, comes a violent and mature thriller based on the award-winning Fables comic books. As Bigby Wolf, you will discover that a brutal, bloody murder is just a taste of things to come. Skylanders Swap Force (WiiU) This is the best Skylanders game to date. There’s an inherent addictive element. Swap Force is really a game made for co-op play, especially since it is designed around the duality of elements. This edition is just as flexible as the previous games. The story is entertaining. The voiced scenes feature plenty of humour. Rocksmith 2014 (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) Rocksmith teaches you fast and effectively by letting you plug any real guitar or bass directly into your games and entertainment system. It becomes your personal teacher as it monitors how you play. GAME OF THE MONTH Part by Part The gaming industry has always had a penchant for blood and gore. This month, we tried out games that focused on ‘limb by limb’ techniques. VERDICT: Is there room in your life for another zombie game? Then, give it a shot.
