Although blow dryers make your hair look great, excessive exposure to heat can actually be quite damaging. Your hair can end up dried out, frizzy or with split ends, which is never a good thing. You can minimise the heat damage and never worry about frying your hair again by following this easy step-bystep guide from Joz Salon & Spa. Preparing to Blow Dry Your Hair The foremost thing is to buy a good quality hair dryer, like the one available from Label.M. Some sophisticated high-end dryers let you control the actual temperature of the hair but if you don’t want to splurge, just make sure you buy a dryer with cool, warm and hot settings and not one that only has a single setting. Attachments are just as important, so invest in a nozzle to distribute the air flow evenly and a diffuser to spread it out over a large area of hair. Adjust the setting depending on the texture of your hair. Finer hair will overheat and burn more quickly, so dry it at a lower temperature. Thicker or curly hair might require a higher heat setting to get the job done but don’t over-expose any hair to heat. Pre-treat your hair with products like Label.M Heat Protector before blow-drying. Use your fingers or a comb to distribute the product evenly throughout your hair. Blow Drying Your Hair Start by separating your hair into sections. Have a mental plan on how you plan to dry your hair. You can begin with the hair on the left side of your face and work around the back to the right or begin with the bottom layer of your hair and work your way to the outer layer. Always begin blow drying at a low temperature and work your way through the hair sections until it’s about 40 per cent dry. Massage your hair at the roots to give it more volume. Flip your hair upside down by bending forward and direct the air flow at the back of your head to easily dry the bottom layers. Attaching the diffuser to your blow dryer will help spread the heat over a larger area, in turn reducing the damage. Continue blowdrying your hair on medium or high heat. A good way to use a diffuser is to drop your hair into its fingers, letting the air blow up through to the roots. Continue this until your hair is about 90 per cent dry. Let your hair cool back down to a normal temperature. This will keep it from getting frizzy and it also feels great on your skin after you have just blasted yourself with hot air for a while. Flip the heat setting to cool or use the frost-boost button if your hair dryer has one. Run the cold air through your hair until it cools down and allow it to air-dry the rest of the way.
