March 2015 159 www.bahrainthismonth.com Extra-curricular Programmes RIFFA VIEWS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Riffa Views International School (RVIS) has added to its extra- curricular programmes, by becoming a member of the international school activities league, Oasis Activities Conference (OAC). The OAC is a new activities conference organised by international schools in the MENA region. The international league provides opportunities for students, of both the junior varsity and varsity level, to travel overseas and participate in various competitive athletic tournaments. These include academic games and fine arts events, such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, forensics/knowledge bowl and music as well as the visual and performing arts. RVIS already offers its students a wide array of extra-and co-curricular programmes — involving competitive and participation-based sports – in addition to recreational activities in art and music. RVIS’s participation in the OAC further strengthens the co-curricular sporting programmes being offered at the school. By becoming a member of the OAC, RVIS aims to encourage students to participate in regional events that provide them with opportunities to excel in their field of interest. This year, RVIS kick-started the first event of the OAC by hosting the junior varsity volleyball tournament for the year 2014-2015. As host of the tournament, RVIS welcomed 140 students and coaches from seven international schools in the region, including Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and UAE, for the inaugural competition. RVIS students have already participated in several regional OAC events, including soccer and volleyball tournaments in Cyprus and Jordan. “The students are very excited for the basketball season — starting this month — and will be traveling to Abu Dhabi for the junior varsity competitions,” a spokesperson says.
