Catch three new comedy acts this month, all the way from the UK, performing live at the Royal Golf Club on May 4, The British Club on May 5 and the InterContinental Regency on May 6. Doors open at 7.30pm. Liam Williams Stand-up comedian, actor, writer and one-third of the sketch group Sheeps, Liam is one of the most talked about young comedians. He was a best newcomer nominee for the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards in 2013, having been named as ‘one to watch’ by Time Out. Liam was also a finalist on Amused Moose Laugh-Off and So You Think You’re Funny? in 2010. His TV credits include BBC Three’s Russell Howard’s Good News and Sean Walsh’s Late Night Comedy Spectacular. His radio show credits include Radio Four’s Fresh from the Fringe and Sabotage. Henry Paker After a brief career in computer animation, Henry Paker decided to give comedy a go. He started out doing stand-up in rooms above pubs, then in rooms below pubs and then eventually in the main body of the pub itself. In 2008, Henry was the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year and realised he might be on to something. Since then his many comic talents have seen him carve out a career as a comic writer, stand-up comedian and cartoonist. Henry’s first solo act was at the Edinburgh Festival in 2010 followed by his acclaimed show Cabin Fever in 2011 and Classic Paker in 2013. His narrative comedy show, The Golden Lizard, won him and Mike Wozniak the best new show at the Leicester Comedy Festival in 2011, and he went on to sell out a run at London’s Soho Theatre. Henry has made several appearances on popular TV shows but, most importantly, he is a much-sought-after writer in the industry for TV and illustrated cartoon books. Nish Kumar Having mastered the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and London with his critically acclaimed show Nish Kumar is a Comedian and sell-out show of 2012 Who Is Nish Kumar?, Nish is definitely a comedian who is storming venues. He has been performing stand-up solo since 2006 and as one half of double-act The Gentlemen of Leisure since 2009. Nish’s comedy triumphs began quickly with two acclaimed runs at the Durham Revue at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, followed by features with Coolfun on BBC Online, Fat Tuesday and PLEB Talks. In 2012 he took on the role of series warm-up for Dave’s One Night Stand, which saw him play to full, capacity theatres. Alongside his flourishing stand-up career, Nish has starred in a number of comic plays. He has firmly cemented his comedian status and is one to watch for in 2014.
