112 June 2014 www.bahrainthismonth.com What Is It? The latest in a long line of Splinter Cell games, Blacklist has much to live up to. This time, protagonist Sam Fisher faces a terrorist organisation called ‘The Engineers’, who are planning attacks against a number of US assets. Fisher is put in charge of a new counter-terrorism black ops unit called Fourth Echelon to track down and stop the organisation. Graphics Visually, Blacklist is crisp and sharp with even the minor visuals being detailed. The surrounding scenery is deeply impressive. The explosions and injuries have a sense of realism to them, something that so many games are lacking. Another noteworthy aspect of the graphics is the video speed. Many of the attack sequences have a slow-mo function that allows you to see in detail what is happening at each stage. Gameplay: The pace and ferocity with which Sam Fisher can wipe out his enemies is deeply impressive and keeps you hooked throughout. The sneak tactics are more challenging and fun than the traditional ‘shoot everything’ style games as they involve more skill and planning. The variety of kill methods is something to be applauded as it gives the player many options. The mission variety and map design is easily the best thing about the game. Aside from the main story mission, you also have five different missions, one for each of your crew. Thief You control Garrett, a master thief who has spent a long time away from his hometown ‘The City’. He returns to find it in ruins and led by a tyrant named ‘The Baron’. The rich control the city and the poor, having suffered enough, are forming a revolt against them, which Garrett intends to use to his advantage. Infamous Second Son Second Son takes place seven years after the previous game and has a new protagonist. Delsin Rowe is a graffiti artist with the ability to absorb the special powers of others. Parkour also features in the game, with Rowe able to use his skills in it to climb and jump from buildings around the playing area. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist Dead Rising 3 DR3 has a much larger playing environment and a new protagonist, Nick Ramos. Initially you have to start searching for weapons which is wise, considering that the new game can render up to three times the number of zombies at a given moment than its predecessor. GAME OF THE MONTH Action and Adventure These games grab your attention right from the start with detailed storylines, great graphics and addictive gameplay. VERDICT: Blacklist can take some getting used to because there is so much to master. games
