It’s easy to be nonchalant with references to the word ‘flagship’. This Quattroporte, however, is as faithful to its heritage as it is to the leading role the sedan plays in setting the technology tone for a slew of new models from the marque. The powerful engine and the large cabin are at the core of the Quattroporte’s design, dominated by a long, powerful nose and a concave Trident grille and providing a clear link to both the outgoing Quattroporte and the GranTurismo. A key to remaining true to its traditions, Maserati has maintained the 50:50 weight distribution between the front and rear of the sedan. A double-wishbone front suspension and a state-of-the-art five-link rear suspension deliver the added security and all-weather assurance of all-wheel drive as well. New standards in quality can be seen in every area from design, development, fabrication and process controls. The car is produced in a new plant that combines Maserati’s traditions of craftsmanship with cutting-edge technologies that are able to guarantee outstanding quality by controlling even the tiniest details. Traditional handcrafted detailing continues in the Quattroporte’s cabin, and this has been added to with even more interior space for all seats and in both four- and fiveseat layouts. Cabin luxury leaps forward technically, too, with features like the Maserati Touch Control screen, adjustable pedals (for left hand drive only vehicles) and reversing cameras. To boost the interior experience there’s the optional 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, as well as WLAN-based WiFi and compatibility with most modern mobile phone systems. Your own masterpiece High on the list of priorities for Maserati is the ability to customise your own car. With options almost limitless, don’t expect, though, to walk into a showcase and walk out with a spanking new ‘motor’.
