www.bahrainthismonth.com June 2013 121 In the malls The elegance, modesty and piety of the Japanese culture, complemented by extravagant, healthful and delectable ingredients have transformed Maki into what it is today — a culinary haven! Located in Moda Mall, it transcends the boundaries of culture and country, embodying what fusion cuisine is all about. In Seef Mall, you can find a range of Asian restaurants like Ching and Rice Bowl. A venue that stands out, however, is Frangipani with the live cooking concept, where you can interact with the chefs. A fairly new entrant is The Noodle House, which speaks for itself. Yo! Sushi in A’Ali Shopping Complex has an interesting concept with a belt of food travelling through the venue. They even offer colour-coded plates to make the dining experience more straight-forward. The bundle packages introduced recently is perhaps their best promotion to date. Bahrain City Centre, unsurprisingly, has a larger line-up of Pan Asian venues. With the recent opening of PF Chang’s, foodlovers have been swarming the mall for a taste of goodness. Catch our review for our review of the spectacular bistro. The complex also boasts Rice Bowl and Memories. In the food court, you can find Sugoi and Hot Wok, catering to those who are looking for a quick meal. The dining district You think food and you think Adliya, for good reason of course. In the 338 district, we can spot favourites like Beijing Chinese that recently uprooted to another avenue in the area, Hash House with the same management as Coco’s, Thailand that has an amazing ambience across its many levels and Mirai, which is known as the hotspot for Japanese cuisine, reserved for those with a sophisticated palate. On another side of Adliya, lie eateries like Wang Thai and Chin Li that have been around for several years. Korean restaurant, Darae Jung has been receiving praise endlessly since its opening. It’s worth finding out why. Nestled within the shisha café hub of Adliya is a modest outlet called Peppers Fusion. Give it a chance; you’ll be hooked. David’s Stir Fry is what we call an instant hit. Although a newcomer in the dining district, it feels like it has always been the local favourite. Topping the list, however, is Meisei that has wowed the food-loving community from day one. With one of the Kingdom’s best chefs on board and a state-of-the-art setting, there’s nothing that can stop them. Read on to learn more about their offerings. Standalone eateries Bushido is perhaps the glitziest restaurant around town with its own lagoon and seven sections. They recently celebrated four years of success in the Kingdom. A newer Japanese outlet is Fuji Teppanyaki in Sheza Tower. The concept is an extension of the Fuji Sushi Bar upstairs. However, they function as two individual concepts. Sushi 101 boasts a self-explanatory title. Located in Zinj, this venue is a great place to introduce yourself to Japanese flavours. Another Japanese venue that has been a favourite for years is Edo in Exhibition Avenue. Sumo Sushi and Bento in Juffair has gained a reputation as a successful family business through its commitment to providing high quality menus, a warm and relaxing atmosphere and excellent service. It not only serves classic Japanese dishes; it also offers cutting-edge innovative recipes as head chefs continue to create fun, flavourful ‘East meets West’ favourites. Hakisushi, along the same street, blazes with brilliant colour from the beautifully presented menu to the geisha motif adorned walls. The menu features the freshest sushi, sashimi and cooked Japanese contemporary cuisine as well as traditional Japanese favourites all served from the Kaiten-sushi dining bar. For Chinese fare, you have options like Kowloon, Hong Kong and Foli in Umm al Hassam and Magic Wok in Juffair and The Jawad Dome. Arirang in Exhibition Avenue offers Korean fare, which is rare in this part of the world. Thai cuisine is all the rage in Bahrain with endless options scattered across the county. You have Muay Thai in Juffair, Thai Express in The Jawad Dome, Shada in Zinj, Pong Thai in Hoora and Banana Leaf in Adliya. For a bit of it all, options include Pan Asia in Umm al Hassam and Nu Asia with branches in A’ali Complex, Isa Town, Budaiya and Juffair. Curry Country has just rebranded itself; its ‘all you can eat’ buffet offers you the chance to try all that they’ve got on the menu and more.
