Hot Rocks is a compilation album from the Rolling Stones that features some of their most recognisable and successful tracks. This album is more diverse than some of their others as it features a variety of their best songs from different periods. This is good news; it means you get the full scope of their music in one sitting. Some of their truly great songs, such as Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Gimme Shelter and Paint It Black, make this album a must for any rock enthusiast’s collection. Worth a listen? The Rolling Stones are one of the first bands that spring to mind from the rock genre and for good reason. Everything about them screams rock; their music has gone down in history as some of the best ever created. Epic guitar riffs and solos, expressive lyrics and true passion made them one of the leading rock bands of their time. The fact that they can still sell albums and sell out concerts should be enough to explain just how good they are. Though there are countless other albums to choose from, Hot Rocks encapsulates more of their great tracks than any other. For that reason, it is the pick of the bunch. VERDICT: They are the most creative rock and roll band in history. Top Track: Gimme Shelter and Paint It Black. Smash Hits features a selection of guitar guru Hendrix’s best tracks. The songs on this album defined an era, from Foxey Lady and Purple Haze to his covers of All Along the Watchtower (on the US version) and Hey Joe — which gained infamy thanks to his playing a part of the song with his teeth. The selections are still worth listening to although they might be available on other compilations. It contains his best and most known songs. The cheeky chaps from Liverpool took the world by storm and Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is perhaps their most significant album. The songs’ moods range from feel good to psychedelic; it’s a brilliant compilation. This refined their breakthrough of fearless experimentation. This album from hard rock kings, Led Zeppelin, is filled with classics, such as Dazed and Confused, Communication Breakdown and one of the greatest rock songs of all time — Stairway to Heaven.
