56 January 2016 www.bahrainthismonth.com britishanniversary Chairing the new committee is Chris Woodrow, formerly house member and deputy chairman. He replaces Andrew Savage, who has served a total of eight years as chairman and three years previously as house member. In recognition of his service to the club Andrew and his wife Ruth were awarded honorary membership at this year’s annual general meeting. Chris and his team, which includes five new members serving for the first time, will continue the extensive renovation projects, which have been carried out over the last few years. Following the refurbishment of the main restaurant, the swimming pool, outside areas and the introduction of a new coffee shop — The Outside Inn — the committee is now focusing its attention on renovating the Sports Bar and providing a new splash playground with water features for children. Chris believes that the club is going into the new year with momentum and confidence. He explains: “From what I have seen and witnessed personally over the best part of nine years as a family member, throughout the history of the club since it opened way back in 1935, it has never been afraid to evolve and it is important that our facilities, outlets and service are in line with what our members expect, but also move forward with the times “I’m humbled to have been elected by the membership to serve the club as chairman and I’m sure we can look forward to another successful year.” An important aspect of the club is its sports facilities, which currently include two squash courts, an indoor hall for badminton and two multi-purpose courts used for netball and tennis. Meanwhile, Chris and the committee will soon be looking at the possibility of developing the rear multi-purpose court into an enclosed sports arena. Why join up?
