34 January 2016 www.bahrainthismonth.com Ahmed Alnemah, Acting Undersecretary for Civil Aviation Affairs, Ministry Of Transportation and Telecommunications, is confident that this year’s airshow will be one to remember thanks to a number of new elements. The Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS), which takes place at the Sakhir Airbase, comprises 40 purpose-built luxury chalets with direct access to the aircraft static display and views of the flying display. Last year, aircraft participation increased with 89 aircraft on the static display and a total of 106 aircraft (flying and static) participating in the show. “The event also has an exhibition hall allowing for more aerospace businesses to participate in the show. This hall is around double the size of the previous edition, due to increased demand,” says Ahmed. “We are expecting participation at this show to be higher than ever before, as a result of a number of new elements being introduced this year, including a hosted buyer programme and two conferences. In addition, we have succeeded in attracting delegations from more countries than previous shows, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and India. “Visitor numbers are expected to reach a total of around 50,000 with an estimated 30,000 visitors attending the trade show and at least 20,000 attending the public event.” When it comes to entertainment, there is plenty on offer to keep the whole family happy. Over the three-day spectacular, visitors will be able to go on a number of rides, including a realistic flight experience simulator and an exciting flight motion ride. There will also be street performers and a variety of well-known Bahraini acts will perform throughout the day. From traditional Bahraini music at the Heritage Village to local rappers and DJs, there is something for everyone.
